? about the famous multiple births

Question:

Yes , they were using fertility meds. My wife is on her second round of clomid, also…good luck!!!!

Response:

also, from what I understand, the doctor was concerned enough to get a confirmation that they would do fetal reduction and then after the seven were confirmed, they refused. Lisa Onto IVF

Response:

I also read in a magazine (forget which one) that 3 of the boys are identical.

Response:

<< I wonder if her OB-GYN could have handled ovarian hyperstimulation……? if she hadn’t concieved. Pregnancy makes hyperstimulation even worse.  Hyperstim is triggered by hCG, and when you’re pregnant, your hCG is on the rise.

Response:

<<and they implanted 7 eggs.. I might be wrong < They do not implant eggs ! They transfer embryos. Sorry to be so picky, but this drives me nuts ! No matter, because she did NOT do IVF.  No eggs were retrieved.  No embryos were transferred.

Response:

I heard she was on injectibles and she had too many follicles.  No IUI was done, and the doctor told her "NO INTERCOURSE".  She ignored the doctor’s advice, and the rest is history. karen

Response:

I did not say that they did an IVF. I have heard too many people ( including many in the media) state that a woman had X number of eggs implanted. It is just a lack of understanding of the whole IVF process that leads people to make semantic mistakes like this. Eduacation on the issue could only help us to get insurance coverage etc.                                                        Lisa

Response:

Extreamly important point.  I wonder if her OB-GYN could have handled ovarian hyperstimulation……?  if she hadn’t concieved.   Good luck. JM        To emphasize how important it is to see an RE for advanced fertility(injectibles) drugs, note that the lady who gave birth to the septuplets wasnot seeing an RE !!! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -(according to my RE)Kaitlyn

I am sure everyone remembers the 7 babies that were born a while back. Does anyone remember if the mother was on fertility drugs? I know she was to conceive her daughter that is 2 or 3 years old, but what about when she got pregnant with the 7?  A friend and I are having a small disagreement about this. I thought she was on fertility meds. My friend says she was not at the time she got pregnant with the 7. Who’s right?

You are.  Multiple births w/o medication on that order of magnitude are *really* rare: that’s why the Dionne quintuplets were international celebrities.  Bobbi McCaughey was on fertility drugs both times she got pregnant.  I just did a short HotBot search and noticed that some articles claimed she used Metrodin, some Pergonal, but all agreed that 1) she did not have IVF and 2) she did use fertility drugs both times she became pregnant.  Her doctor, Karen Hauser, is described as "a fertility specialist."  FWIW, I seem to remember reading that IUI had been done, and that their doctor had been concerned because there were so many follicles developing that cycle, but they decided to go for it anyway (but again, that’s just from memory).  Here’s a not very detailed http://usnewspapers.miningco.com/blsept.htm

Hi, I think the mother had IVF done and they implanted 7 eggs.. I might be wrong about that, but I think that was the case. Jane

Response:

I seem to recall they "did it" the old-fashioned way.  With a little help from Metrodin. Good luck.  JM           Do you recall if she did IUI?  I can’t remember…..I don’t think she did.   (I know she didn’t do IVF…)

From my recollection I think she was on Pergonal.

Response:

<<I remember on the special "Dateline" program they said she was on Metrodin. The same dose as she was for her 1st child. That is my recollection as well.  Do you recall if she did IUI?  I can’t remember…..I don’t think she did.   (I know she didn’t do IVF…)

Response:

Yes, she was on Metrodin. Ellen 2+ yrs. secondary IF 4th cycle clomid 100mg RE appt. 10/29

Response:

Yes, she was on Fertinex or Pergonal or the equivilent.  She had trouble getting pg the first time and used these drugs.  So, when she wanted to get pg again, the doc put her back on them, on the same high dose she used the first time.
