adrenal hyperplaysia

Question:

I missed something and I’m very confused. What is adrenal hyperplasia? And what is CAH? I’ve been thinking I have something called adrenal fatigue?  Is that related? Thanks! xklm

Response:

How do you know if you have that or pco?My Dhea-s is elevated which means it comes from the adrenals. When I researched it there was no name for it except adrenal hyperplasia.None of the other hormones are elevated.I am not tall and don’t have that thing with the clitoris.Robin

Response:

People with adrenal hyperplasia aren’t tall. and mostly only the ones who are born with it have malformations of gentials, and if you had it you would have high hydroxy-progestrone,( something like that)  but it has the same symtomps basically .  because having it can cause pco if not treated

CAH means there’s a missing enzyme (there are many forms of CAH because of this fact.)  If the CAH starts in utero, that’s called classical CAH.  If it starts later in life, it’s called "late onset".   I have a form that is late onset.. BUT…it’s also the form where there isn’t an excessive amount of hair too. It’s MY educated guess, that MANY PCO people also have CAH.  Just like PCO isn’t well known, CAH is known even less. My advice to everyone in the group would be to check in web searchers to find out if they fit the "late onset" types.

Response:

Ortiz,    Please visit my web site.  It has links to sites about PCO and CAH. Just click on below. As for the comment about CAH causing PCO, never heard that before. I have late-onset CAH  [see SF SF] and and PCO, have a sister with PCO but not CAH,and a relative who had CAH that wasn’t treated but did not have PCO. SF SF and I have been E-MAILing back and forth to each other on this subject. We both agree that educating ourselves is important, so please visit my site and bookmark the pages you link to. A blood test for karyotyping is used to diagnose CAH and, as SF SF mentioned, there are different types and forms. God Bless! Sincerely, Carol http://community.webtv.net/clucier/AWESOMEGOD

Response:

Carol, you have an exceptional web page, but I don’t think the jury is out. Theres a chicken and egg issue that still remains about PCO and CAH. In the web page below, they list PCO as a symptom of CAH — check out *Table 1* on the following web page about a third down from the top. http://www.aafp.org/afp/990301ap/1190.html IMO, I think anyone who has PCO who hasnt’ been tested for CAH, should do so if their planning a pregnancy.  The explanation of CAH on the web page below is terribly lacking, but some people have CAH and may not realize it because symptoms can be so mild, HOWEVER, the last paragraph of this web page is right on target. http://www.aafp.org/afp/990301ap/990301b.html This issue has become my "research topic" of moment, so if you or anyone reading this has any more info, please share it here. We may figure out who’s got the most updated medical info. Some stuff on the Net is plain bogus, but some is even worse because it’s valid information, but *extremely* outdated (ahem.. sort of like real-life docs we’re paying to treat us.) <sigh>   – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Carol Lucier wrote: > Ortiz, >    Please visit my web site.  It has links to sites about PCO and CAH. > Just click on below.
