advice on ovarian drilling needed

Question:

I have been living with PCO for over 3 years now. I have not had extremely distressing side effects like some, but the effects noticed have been distressing to me. Weight gain, I have put on 3 and a half stone, mood swings, virtually non-existent periods or no period. The first gynae I saw said it was PMS!!. The 2nd gynae gave me Clomid for 3 months, it apparently did not work and has booked me in for a Laparoscopy and ovarian drilling!!!. Help, I want to know more, does it really work, what could be the consequences for my future fertility, what is the success rate, what could go wrong, and should I really have it done. I would also like to know more about the PCO support group and the conference planned. Thanks for listening to me, my gynae just thinks that my queries question his judgement!! Lindsey

Were you ovulating at all on Clomid? I had the ovarian drilling done last October… I was ovulating on Clomid, but required high dosages which caused other problems. After the drilling I can ovulate on only 50 mg Clomid. My dr said 60% (or was it 80%) of his patients ovulate spontaneously after the surgery, and most of the others are like me — they still need drugs, but less. >Thanks for listening to me, my gynae just thinks that my queries question >his judgement!!

Then he sounds like a real jerk! Tracy
