Best way from Heathrow to London?

Question:

: If the car service isnt listed on this site, then the chances are they : are operating illegally, and you really dont want to use them. : Why not? Your risk of being ripped off increases quite a bit when the operator is not accountable to anyone.

Is it me, or was that a dumb question?… Lets just look at a few answers The vehicles may not be roadworthy The drivers may not have licences The vehicles may not be insured And last year over 200 women were assaulted by drivers of illegal cabs. It’s a nice hotel.  Email the concierge – they probably have a private car pickup service they use.  We paid about 35 pounds for Marble Arch to Heathrow.  Nice new Mercedes with a courteous driver in a suit who assisted with the luggage.

Its good advice, but please be aware that since Oct 2001 all car services in London now must be licenced, and you have to be very careful, i know for a fact that quite a few hotels are still using unlicensed companies STILL. Mainly because the Hotel Concierges get a kickback from them. Just becasue a hotel suggests a service, it sdoesnt always follow that they are licenced. If you follow this advice, get the name of the car service and then check them at http://www.londontransport.co.uk/pco/ph_ops_list.shtml If the car service isnt listed on this site, then the chances are they are operating illegally, and you really dont want to use them. www.airporttransfers.biz Fixed price transfers from all of Londons airorts Call us on 0700-AIRTRANS Gatwick, Stansted, Heathrow, Luton we cover all airports and docks

Involuntary taxi-sharing. Long queues anyhow. Waste of time. I do Heathrow Express then tube from Paddington. Tube the whole way no fun. Dave Getting a taxi at Paddington could be a problem from what I understand

It’s often easier to get a cab on one of the streets around Paddington than at the station itself, in my experience. Doesn’t solve the problem if luggage is the issue, of course.

We will arrive in Heathrow around 10 or 11am and wonder what is  the best and most reasonable method of transport to London, staying at the Stafford, wherever that is.

It’s a nice hotel.  Email the concierge – they probably have a private car pickup service they use.  We paid about 35 pounds for Marble Arch to Heathrow.  Nice new Mercedes with a courteous driver in a suit who assisted with the luggage. On the other end of the scale, we have taken the tube from Heathrow to Knightsbridge, which is an easy journey on the same line.  Cheap, but luggage beyond what you can carry up steps is too much for the tube in my experience.  The Paddington express plus cab to your hotel for two will cost as much, if not more, than the new Mercedes with driver. I would assume that many guests of the Stafford choose a chauffuer driven limousine. Assuming there is only one, the Stafford is located at the arrow in the following map:- http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=529160&Y=180192&A=Y&Z=1 If you choose public transport, the tube aka "the London Underground" is much cheaper than the Heathrow Express train and the line from Heathrow stops at Green Park, which you can see on the map is just around the corner from the hotel.  Given your destination, the tube will also be much quicker than the other options (including the limo).  It should take you a little over an hour from getting through airport security to the hotel door, including about 45 minutes on the train.
