help/newbie/questions

Question:

Help!  I am waiting to see if I have PCO, and although I’ve done some reading in this NG and some of the web pages mentioned in posts, I’m still confused! I had an ultrasound this last Monday, and I have one cyst that is 2.6 cm across–is this considered large or small?  It hurts, and I’ve only had like 6 periods, maybe less, during the last year.  Do most people have cysts removed, or do you just let it stay there? I am still waiting for blood tests, and I just want to know now!!!  I also don’t do well waiting to open presents! I’m curious–how long does it usually take to get a diagnosis and begin treatment? I would really appreciate any help or advice on this whole thing! Thanks, Dawn

2.6 cm is getting fairly large, but I understand that cysts smaller than 5 cm are generally not removed.  However, since yours is painful, you may need treatment if it doesn’t get better.  Cysts usually shrink with time. > I’m curious–how long does it usually take to get a diagnosis and begin > treatment?

You should get your "official" diagnosis as soon as you get your lab results back, and you should be given treatment (preferably metformin) immediately. Good luck! Reb
