Hungry

Question:

Hi Room,  I have about 5 stones to loose which makes me tired just being at this weight.  I find diets impossible so I try eat healthy.  I go to the gym about 3 times a week.  My problem is i’m ALWAYS hungry.  I crave carbohydrates as well as I have PCO.  How can I ever feel full?  Help!!!  I am 30 yrs old.. mother of rugrats.

I’m not Room, but maybe I can help, or at least share my experience. I used to always be hungry too. You might be insulin resistant (since you’ve got PCO that is very likely). Starchy foods like potatoes, corn, regular pasta, and white rice make you crave more. And if you’re like me, they’ll leave you hungry again about an hour after you’ve eaten. I know a lot of women with PCO have had luck with low-carb diets. I researched them–read Atkins, Protein Power, and CAD–and found it wasn’t something I could honestly commit to. I did some more research and found the glycemic index on the web. It’s at this url: http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm . I basically started eating a little more protein and choosing fruits and vegetables from the lower end of the glycemic index. There was a noticable difference immediately. I didn’t get hungry right after I ate, the awful headaches I got at work went away, and I had more energy. Then I heard about Sugarbusters and read the book and found that it was very much like what I had started, except I learned it was okay to have whole grain breads, brown rice, and whole wheat pasta. You might want to look into it. I’ve found it very easy to follow. Mimo — 225/206/175(halfway mark) Drink more water!
