Lipids Checked

Question:

I had a doctor appointment this morning after LCing for one month.  I’ve been on Glucophage 500mg daily (for PCO and IR) for this period of time, and we discussed increasing the meds and also how the Atkins WOE is working out for me.  (My doctor is very supportive of LCing.) She surprised me by wanting to check my lipids again.  I just had mine checked a couple months ago.  Isn’t it too early to see a change in the numbers?  I am under the impression that the numbers raise initially and then drop.  What is the time frame we are talking about?  I’m afraid they are going to be astonishingly high because I haven’t been LCing for long. Also, (lame question here) but would eating a few S’Mints affect the results?  I told her that I had fasted since 10pm (appt was at 9am) but on the way home I remembered that I had eaten a few of those things in the waiting room! Thanks, Chele :-) 265/234/223/150

Chele, How are you reacting to the Glucophage? Is it making it easier to lose weight?

Jenny, It’s hard to say, because I started Atkins generally at the same time I began taking Glucophage.  I really don’t know if the WOE is helping alone, or if the meds have assisted me in the weight loss. I started at 234 and I’m 223 (loss of 11lbs), and I’ve been LCing for 4 weeks.  My doctor is pretty happy and wants me to continue doing what I’m doing.  She increased my Glucophage to 1000mg daily (extended release), but she added that she’s not sure it would help more than just one pill a day in terms of weight loss. Chele, Thanks for the update about the Glucophage.  The stuff I’ve read about it online suggests that it should help weight loss. I’m wondering if it might be particularly useful with a low carb diet since I’ve discovered that my body is still pumping out a lot of insulin in the absense of carbs. I’ve also read stuff online that argues that the weight loss from Glucophage is mostly because it upsets the stomach the first couple weeks. I wish there was REAL information about this but of course the drug companies aren’t going to pay to research that!
