Looking for a little guidance.

Question:

Recently, i was diagnosed with PCO.  (although i have been complaining to every doctor i have visited since i was 16 of the obvious symptoms) I am very unhappy with my present Endoc. and was wondering how one finds a good doctor for treatment in this area.  I have all the symptons except extreme weight gain (although i have gained 15 lbs in the past 6 months).  I am tired of being shuffled around from doctor to doctor who refuses to start any real action plan.  Every day that passes i feel it is a day wasted with the symptoms getting worse.  Although i am not looking to be pregnant any time soon.  I would like to find a doctor i trust before that time comes.   any advice? gila

What are the symptoms of hyperstimulation, and can permanent damage result? Thanks, Loretta

Dear Sheri,      My concern (I’m sure others share this with me) is that your RE does not plan to monitor your ovaries’ response to the Clomid.  It’s my understanding that we cysters are more inclined to hyperstimulate.  I did last Clomid cycle and had to take a month off.  Who knows if it’s happened before?  I went to 4 Drs. before I found one who did monitor me while on Clomid.  You should be getting an ultrasound at the start of your cycle, then again about day 12.      Also, has your husband been checked?        I went to the only board certified RE in southern CO, and he wasted a lot of my time trying different things and using temp. charts to determine whether I ovulated.  He never once looked at my ovaries on ultrasound, and he never quite got around to the IUI.  I regret spending so much time with him.   In my opinion, if you’re going through so much grief and expense trying, you might as well go the extra step and increase your odds with IUI.      I just had my 2nd IUI last weekend, and I am praying that this one takes!        I don’t know what your options are, but to me it is worthwhile to go out of your way for an RE who’s going to give you the treatment you need. Right now I’m seeing a Dr. that my insurance company doesn’t deal with, period!!  So it’s all coming out of our pocket.  But what’s the point of seeing someone who’s "approved" but who isn’t treating you properly?? Hope some of this helps. Fran in Colorado Springs.

Hi!   I am new to this group and have not had the courage to post many messages.  I just had my second/follow-up apointment with my RE today.   I have only recently been diagnosed with PCO and had the routine tests, HSG, etc.. done.  Today, we talked about those results and what our next plan of action is. Well, my HSG showed a slight blockage in my right tube, the fluid did pass through, but he is not sure what it is.  He prescribed Clomid and said that we could do a Lap if I wanted, to make sure the tubes are fine.  I am VERY nervous about having a Lap done, so I said we would try Clomid. The doctor said he wants us to try Clomid for six months.  My dh works overseas and 6 months would actually be a year for us, as he is home for a month/gone for a month.  We talked a little about IUI, but it seemed to me that all he wanted to do was give me the Clomid and…se ya in six months…  I think he is a good doctor and the clinic we attend is the only one of its kind around where I live.  I am looking for some sort of positive feedback.  I was wondering, can we really conceive on stricly Clomid?  What about the mucus thing?  Has anyone out there with PCO been successful with Clomid? I am sorry this post is so long, I am just very anxious about getting started and with my dh being gone so much, what are our chances? Thank you, in advance for your help! Sheri :-)
