I am on Metformin and Mircette (Desogen in a lower dose). Seems to work really well. I’ve not had problems except for throwing up a few times in the beginning (I have gastroparesis, so you really count on any changes doing GI upsets). The hair problem that I couldn’t get rid of on metformin alone, really corrected itself on the Mircette. I only have to do a light shave every 4 days or so on the chin on the Mircette, the sideburns are rare, the breast and lower abdomen hair is really improved. :) Victoria "Judy Trummer" <k…@earth.execpc.com> wrote in message

Hi y’all.  I just got diagnosed type 2 diabetic and my doctor wants me to go on Met.  I’ve got major PCO symptoms, though I’m not interested in conceiving (ever) so I haven’t even really brought it up with this doctor.   The diabetes side of it is what I want/need treated.  I’m also on depo-provera for birth control.  With my high blood pressure and diabetes it seemed safer than the pill.  I know depo can cause weight gain/extra hair, but hell, I have that already, what’s the difference?  I’ve been on depo a year and actually lost a slight amount of weight anyway.   So my question is, what’s the common thought on being on Met and birth control (pills/shot) at the same time?  Any problems?  I know I shoudl talk to my doctor, but it’s hard to get a hold of her and she *might* have forgotten the depo while considering everything else.  I believe that BC pills are more of a problem when it comes to med interactions, and depo being progestin-only isn’t supposed to affect other stuff quite so much.. but I’m not really sure where it stands.  Anybody know anything?

Met’s package insert mentions to be sure to be on birth control since many women resume ovulation on Met.   I believe that BC >pills are more of a problem when it comes to med interactions, and depo >being progestin-only isn’t supposed to affect other stuff quite so much.. >but I’m not really sure where it stands.  Anybody know anything? >  I believe that BC >pills are more of a problem when it comes to med interactions, and depo >being progestin-only isn’t supposed to affect other stuff quite so much.. >but I’m not really sure where it stands.  Anybody know anything?

I am not quite sure which would be best.  I know that when I was on Ortho, my symptoms worsened.  When I was a teen, I was on Loestrin for regulation. It didn’t bother me the way Ortho did.  ^—^ Cathy { ‘ . ‘ }       `  Those who play with cats must expect to be scratched. 4Cysters: http://pages.ivillage.com/cystercat Other pages: http://peaceonearth.faithweb.com http://littlec.faithweb.com http://www.i-love-cats.com/meow/cat

I know there isn’t money in the world to get me to take Depo Provera.  Nasty stuff, IMO. Why not try a progestin only pill?  (a mini pill I think they are called) if you are worried about interactions with combo pills.  I’m not sure why BCP would be a problem? Lots of people are using Met or other oral meds and BCP. —
