Metformin and shrimp?

Question:

Is it ok to eat shrimp while taking metformin?  Seems to me that a few years ago, I thought it wasn’t.   -Kay

Yes, it should be perfectly OK.  The only intake restriction I know of is alcohol.  It’s not a good idea to get plastered while taking metformin although a single drink should be fine.

You’re welcome–glad it smoothed part of your Christmas Eve!  Me, I had no shrimp . . . just some wonderful grilled prime rib at my sister’s house. Beth (wondering if one should take metformin and eat lutefisk . . .)

I know I am late answering this question but I am a commercial shrimp fisherwoman part time. I eat lots of shrimp and I have not had any bad side-effects from the shrimp, also if I know I will be drinking anything with alcohol I skip my dose of Met. Is this a bad habit? I don’t drink alot maybe once a month. When you say drinking, do you mean one drink or quite a few?  I have an occasional drink and do not stop met for that.  But if you binge drink, that is where the problem lies.  Be sure to drink plenty of water too so you do not become dehydrated.  ^—^ Cathy { ‘ . ‘ }       `  Those who play with cats must expect to be scratched. 4Cysters: http://pages.ivillage.com/cystercat Other pages: http://peaceonearth.faithweb.com http://littlec.faithweb.com http://www.i-love-cats.com/meow/cat

I wouldn’t say I am a binge drinker or anything. Maybe I have about 4 beers when I go out with DH I just don’t want to take it incase I do have more than that. This way I feel safer. This only happens once a month and I have had no adverse effects or anything. That is what my doc told me to do anyway. I always load up on water. That is all that I drink now. Yummy, seems I can’t get enough water these days. :) Tracy Cathy the Cat Loving Cyster wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> >also if I know I will be drinking anything with > >alcohol I skip my dose of Met. Four beers is quite a few (to me anyway, who just has an occasional drink) so d/cing the medication is probably wise in that case.  Continue with the yummy water.  ^—^ Cathy { ‘ . ‘ }       `  Those who play with cats must expect to be scratched. 4Cysters: http://pages.ivillage.com/cystercat Other pages: http://peaceonearth.faithweb.com http://littlec.faithweb.com http://www.i-love-cats.com/meow/cat
