mini dose protocol

Question:

Hi Abby- My RE does a protocol somewhat similiar.  I am 33, have pco, have had 3 mc’s. Last cycle I took the bc pill for 3 weeks, on the 3rd week I tool .2cc of Lupron, got AF, then on day 3, 4 or 5 went in for a baseline u/s, started fertinex shots (1.5 amps but was eventually bumped up to 2 amps daily), and decreased the Lupron to .1 cc.  I have not done iui nor ivf. I must have had the longest cycle ever-31 days! LOL!  We are taking a month (at least) off and then decide what to do next.  My RE said we’d do the identical protocol on the next cycle. Best of luck to you! Wendy

Wendy, you are describing a typical downregulation protocol (not microdose, not minidose, not flare).  This is quite different than what Abby is doing.

Hi everyone. Again my my strong belief in using these newsgroups is validated. I posted a message on several newsgroups asking if anyone has been on a mini dose protocol and got a wonderful response. I am listing it here to just show how psoting your concerns can bring great relief. So here is my message with the answer.

<< Now my  re has me stopping the Lupron when I start the Gonal-f. Has anyone heard about this? I thought the Lupron helps prevent early ovulation so why is my re stopping it when I am doing Gonal-f? I have a phone call in to my nurse about it and I hope she gets back to me because I am starting the Gonal-f tonight. here is the response: I used Lupron for 10 days and once I was completely supressed, I started with Follistim and stopped the Lupron. My RE often uses this protocol, especially with woman like myself who are easily overly supressed . I did not have a premature LH surge and ended up with 18 mature follicles none of which were ovulated in advance of the retreival ( although it is scary once you have the HCG shot. I kept wondering if the eggs were still there and it was a very long thirty four hours. ) In the cycle before the one I described, I produced only 2 follicles due to my sensitivity to the Lupron and the IVF was converted to an IUI. The second cycle was successful and I am now 32 weeks pregnant, so be assured that what your RE ids doing can work, I would be happy to answer any questions you might have, just ask. Abby: Wasn’t this great? Before I was so nervous and scared my re was doing something wrong and now I am hopeful. What a day. hugs to all. Abby

Hi. has anyone heard of a mini dose protocol? My nurse told me that this is what I am on. I took Lupron from the 3rd week fo my cycle up until I start Gonal-f, 3 amps in the am and 3 amps in the pm. I stop taking the Lupron when on the gonal-f. Different eh? I asked the nurse to find out how early ovulation is prevented. She asked a doctor and they said that by taking the Lupron before the Gonal-f that it still helped to prevent early ovulation. That you didn’t need to take the Lupron at the same time as the Gonal-f. If anyone has done this protocol or has heard about it I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks again for listening. Abby
