New here (pg, m/c, neonatal death mentioned)
Question:
Hi everyone. I’m new here as you can see. I was diagnosed with PCO in 1997, by an RE. Had all the labs to confirm it. Did the clomid routine and then on to injectibles. Got pregnant with the injectibles and miscarried the first two pregnancies. Mentioned Glucophage/Met to the RE and he said it wasn’t proven to work. Did another cycle of injectibles. JACKPOT pregnant with QUADS. (That was last year at this time) At 25 weeks gestation, went into pre-term labor. Delivered Baby A – Ashley, she died about an hour later. My cervix closed up and three days later bam again. I had infection in my uterus from Ashley’s umbillical cord. Baby B – Thomas, Baby C – Jenna and Baby D – Nicholas were born. Three days later, Nicholas died of a brain bleed. On 6/26, Thomas died due to complications of a surgery he had (He got three infections at once). Jenna came home on 5/31 and is doing well. She had a hernia surgery and still has to have a cardiac cath procedure done. She is on oxygen but is growing like a weed. After the birth of the quads I switched obs. I hold the old one responsible for the premature birth of the babies. My new OB is willing to put me on Glucophage, but only for three months. He said to come back when I was ready to get pregnant again. Well today I went in to see him and they gave me the script for the Glucophage. I am on 500 mg 1x for 1 week, then 2x for 1 week and then 3x till my next appointment in two months. I was wondering if that sounds right? I was also wondering when does the weight come off if it does? I am going on a low card diet tomorrow. Any help is appreciated. TIA Lynn

my doc put me on 500 mg once a day for 30 days. she did lab work, then increased my dose to 500 mg twice a day. she left me on this for 60 days (i am 30 days into this dosage now) , then i go back for more bloodwork and see if it needs to be increased to 500mg three times a day. i did not have many bouts of diarrhea this way. maybe two or three days after starting each dosage change. then maybe once or twice in the last 30 days. not sure if its because of what i am eating or the medicine itself. i have not changed my diet yet. but i already lost 11 lbs. i am a carb addict unfortunately. finding it hard to change my ways. i find i am not snacking as much as i used to. i never seem hungry after dinner anymore. which may account for some of my weight loss. i don’t officially exersize but run after 4 kids all day long. (all courtesy of lots of fertility drugs and money) i think it would be great if i actually could conceive without all the drugs. but i’m not counting any chickens … good luck to you, and your family. barb My new OB is willing to put me on > Glucophage, but only for three months. Welcome to our board! I am on met also. I started taking just as you are with working up to the full dosage. You do it this way to get your body used of it. you may be very missable for a few weeks. You might live in the bathroom some days but I tell you what it is worth it! I have been on it since June and have lost only 12 pounds but I feel better and have gotton 2 periods on my own. I was to only be on it for 3 months also but I just got another 3 months added on to it If u have any qustions pleas feel free to email me! Welcome again! Hedie

Why only 3 months? Gloucophage takes at least 6 months to see any real long term benefits. And gloucophage is not a use it for a short term and forget it medicine. It is a diabetic medication. If your doctor is considering gloucophage he should have checked your insulin. If he hasn’t he is just guessing on using this medication. I would have to doubt he knows what he is doing. Be careful, these doctors says they know what they are doing. But many just don’t know. Donna "CHESTER427" <chester…@aol.com> wrote in message

The dose your doc has you on sounds totally normal (to me). Because metformin is known to cause gastrointestinal upset/diarrhea, they try to introduce you to it slowly to minimize the side effects. I am on it, and that is exactly the way my RE told me to start it as well. Since then I’ve lost 27 lbs (more or less) and have seen my moods even out — although I still have a long way to go. I’m currently taking 850mg 2x/day. "CHESTER427" <chester…@aol.com> wrote in message
