pregnant with Pco
Question:
I just got the wonderful news that I am pregnant yet I am scared to death. I have dreamed of this moment but fear that the Pco is going to be a big problem for me. Has anyone else been pregnant and how has it been? Did your hormones play havok on you? Did you need to take any kind of drugs to aide in your pregnancy? Any good news will be helpful!!!!! Thank you Paula
Response:
I have heard of otherPCO people who had problems with toxemia while pregnant—-and I had pre-eclampsia, which leads to toxemia. Make your ob-gyn aware, because he can monitor you to avoid any problems.

I am 29 weeks pregnant and have PCO. I was also concerned, like you are, that the PCO would cause havoc on my hormones, but luckily that hasn’t been the case. The pregnancy has been pretty uneventful so far, with the exception of a very weak immune system that is leading me to several repeated infections in my bladdar and in my sinuses. I was pleasantly surprised that I have not gained any weight even though I’m eating plenty of carbs (lots and lots of fruits and graings and, of course, ice cream for calcuim:) The baby has changed my hormones and my metabolism and it’s almost like I don’t have PCO while I’m pregnant. Good luck, Heather

I am currently at 17 weeks and have seen that I have been gaining weight (went off low carb) and I was pretty sick until a week or so ago. I am feeling pretty good right now. Wendy

I had a baby last March and ended up only gaining 15 pounds altogether. The docs watched (via US) on her development and closely monitored my "belly measurements" (can’t remember the tech term). I did have a problem with pre-term labor, but I had the same problem with my first child (both are healthy). Do be careful how much sodium you intake because the less you intake the less you will swell and be likely to have Toxemia. Good Luck and don’t sweat it. :) Susan

Actually while I was pregnant (had my little girl last August) I felt great. I only gained 20lbs and ate all the carbs I wanted (wooho0!!!). 4 weeks after delivery I weighed the same as I did before I got pregnant. I did not have any problems during the pregnancy other than toxemia during the last 2-3 weeks… not bad considering I was taking medicine for high blood-pressure BEFORE I got pregnant and they had to stop me from taking it during the pregnancy. So I guess you could say being pregnant helped that (until the last 2 weeks LOL). Unfortunately, after the pregnancy I got back into that carb-craving phase and gained about 15lbs… I am now fighting that off. Also, I went through major hormonal crazies about 3 weeks after delivery (which I believe is normal… post-partum blues, etc).

I had a perfectly normal pregnancy with PCO after an ovarian drilling. I was seing my endo every month and I took 20lbs I had no problem to breastfeed actually I did it for 14 months. My son is now 16 months old and I used to see my endo every 3 months since I gave birth tomorrow it will be the last time after that I think he will see my twice a year. Chrystelle cpasq…@sprint.ca
