I just got my lab results back today and my progesterone was 54. I guess that means I did ovulate. I can’t tell where but this morning lifecycle told me I ovulated in the 30th. I’m just wondering if this is a good #. I had my blood test on the 31 and like I said it was 54. Is there a web site that any of you can recommend that talks a little about progesterone levels?? Erika
Erika, your P4 level only needs to be above 10 to support a pregnancy, some doctors say 15…so you’re well within the safe zone if you were tested 7dpo, if you could figure out when that was and know that you were tested close to that time. That’s pretty much the standard testing. — Trisha93

I’ve been reading a lot of posts regarding progesterone and I have a question that I can’t quite get out of my mind. Last year I had a 21 day prog. reading of 60, after Clomid and IUI. This was much higher than any previous reading (generally in the 20s). My doctor said she "almost had a heart attack" when she saw the lab result. However, I had a negative preg. test on day 31. My question is, with that tremendous prog. level, do you think I was preg.? How else can it be explained? I’d really appreciate any input anyone can give. Thanks, Paula from LA

My progesterone level was ranging from 9 to 13 without Clomid and it jum to 30, 40 with Clomid. My doctor said that my body responds very well to the medication. There is no high limit level of progesterone. Some people can read as high as 110. I hope this can help.

What is considered normal for progesterone level on day of retrieval? My E2 levels are climbing (almost doubling every 2 days) and my progesterone level has not changed much… I should have retrieval sometime next week (Wednesday or Thursday). Any help? Thanks
Response:
<<What is considered normal for progesterone level on day of retrieval? I think it should be less than 2. Should be low. << My E2 levels are climbing (almost doubling every 2 days) and my progesterone level has not changed much… That’s normal. Progesterone doesn’t rise until after ovulation.

Hi! I started my first cycle of Clomid (50 mg) the beginning of this month and went for a progesterone check on day 21. When I called the clinic today to get my results, the nurse told me that my progesterone was 36.5 on day 21. She also told me that menat that I had ovulated. I am very excited to hear this – but am wondering, is 36.5 a good number? I am so new to all of this, I would appreciate any input any of you may have. Thank you, Sheri

Thanks Roberta! I just found out yesterday that I am pregnant! I am still very much in shock….I am not really experiencing any pg symptoms – other than ordinary PMS sypmtoms. I would only be about 4 weeks along, asked every person I know if I could have possibly got a false positive because I was on Clomid in May…they say "no", I am pregnant, but I am having a hard time believing it. I am fairly new to this and am not sure what I should do next, any suggestions? Sheri

I’ll be starting clomid, and since you’ve gone through it can you give some details of how it worked for you? Did you start on day 5 then try and get pg on what days? Did you use an OPK kit?, how about robitussin? I have PCO and had a miscarriage back in March. We got pregnant naturally by accident that month since we decided to take a break, but since the D&C I haven’t had a normal period yet so I think we missed this month also. Anyway can you give some details so maybe I can take some advice from someone who’s been through it? Thanks Paris The contents of this message express only the sender’s opinion. Hi Paris! There isn’t much to tell you really. This was my first month on Clomid (after a 20 pound weight loss). I took 50 mg on days 3-7. I started using OPK tests on day 10. I tested every second day and got a positive on day 16. My dh and I timed intercourse to be every second day or so, but really just kind of "went with it", if you know what I mean. I also had a progesterone check done on day 21 (36.5), so I was certain that I had ovulated. The next thing I knew, my period was 2 days late…should have period 21 after last Clomid pill. I did a HPT and it 5 weeks LMP (8742). So, that’s my story. I had very little side effects to the Clomid with the exception of extreme moodiness. I hope that helps you some. We really didn’t expect it to work so quickly. We were concentrating on doing IUI in June. May was more of a test month to see if I responded to the Clomid…..guess I did! All the very best of luck Paris, please keep us posted on how you are doing! Hugs, Sheri

) My ob/gyn doesn’t do any of those tests (progesterone, hcg blood unless you are preg, etc), did you go directly to an RE or was it through your OB. What made you decide to go to an RE if that was who treated you? I’m at the stage of maybe switching doctors. We’ve been infertile except for the miscarraige now for a year, is that long enough (But cause of my PCO within that year I’ve only had a period 3 times, the third time I got pg on my own) Thanks again and CONGRATULATIONS!!! Does anyone know what the level of progesterone should be before and after you ovulate? My levels are at .4 and .6 on day 23 I am really confused. If anyone knows the info would be great. Thanks, Jenni
Response:
Jenni, Hi. I’ve been seeing my dr. and having monthly progesterone level test done (blood tests). I started with a 0.2 level on Day 21. My dr. told me that that number should be at least 12 on Day 21. In February, I got a progesterone and oil shot, which is given to you directly into your hip. In March, not only did I ovulate, but on day 21, my progesterone level was 23.9, which is excellent according to my dr. Apparently unless your level is at least 12 on Day 21, you wouldn’t have ovulated that month. I hope this helped you some. Maybe you should ask your dr. about the progesterone and oil shot. Cheryl
Response:
Most dr.’s say any number over 14 or 15 is an indication of ovulation after day 21 of your cycle. Don’t be discouraged by your low number, I was .7 last month and 29.6 – go figure!?
Response:
Does anyone know what the normal range of progesterone is post ovulation? Mine was 40. Does it indicate anything if it is above normal? My test was done 7 days post IUI. Thanks in advance, Kelley

Hello Kelley – Most people (doctors) say that the projesterone level in the mid-luteal phase means nothing (other than it needs to be above 15 to support a pregnancy). Oral projesterone tablets taken after ovulation will affect the number as well as clomid, metrodin, pergonal, HCG, and the number of folicles that rupture (becuase they sucrete projesterone in their copus luteum or something like that). Also, apparently the value changes throughout the day (as my doctor tells me), so a solid test of the level would be to test it several times over a 2 hr period… I get my hopes up every time my level is higher than usual (compared to other cycles on those same drugs); but my nurse always warns me not to – so far she’s always been right. Last weeek she told me a patient had a proj level of 200; but was not pregnant. I wish you the best of luck and hope that I am all wrong! Heidi
