Saw Palmetto and hair loss

Question:

Hello, My PCO symptoms include hair loss from the top of my head and acne.  I am currently taking vitex and would like to add Saw Palmetto to my regimen to see if it will halp my hair loss.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  I am looking to ward of loss of wanted hair rather than encourage loss of unwanted hair.  Since both of these are probably  related to too much free-testosterone, I would assume that the SP is appropriate. In the past I have used RetinA and rogaine, but now that I am trying to get PG, I am thinking of trying the SP, at least in the "first half" of each cycle. Any infor would be most appreciated! Yes, for me the Saw Palmetto also helped with slowing down the hair loss on the top of my head.  It finally went back to normal.  However I am not familiar with vitex and don’t know how the 2 would work together. Tina

Thanks for your reply, Tina, it’s good to know that it helped you with the hair loss. BTW, vitex is also called chatetree berry and it is supposed to be a hormone balancing herb.  In particular, it helps the pituatary gland and helps balance LH/FSH production as well as supporting a healthy luteal phase.  It also helps hormone-related acne. I will be asking the herbalist I have been seeing if I can take the in combination, although I don’t think there will be a problem. One more question, how long did you take the saw palmettos before you saw an improvement, and how much do you take a day? For the help with the hair loss I didn’t really realize it until after about 4 months… but then again, I wasn’t even looking for that.  It may have helped even before that.  It took about 1 to 2 months before I noticed it helping with the excess hair growth.  I am taking 450mg capsules 3 times a day. Response:

Try Nioxin its safe to use when pregnant because it is all natural. We sell it in our salon and I have used it and they also have vitamins for hair too!

Response:

<<its safe to use when pregnant because it is all natural>> !! Just because something is "natural" does NOT mean it’s safe.  Don’t take saw palmetto while pregnant.
