Should I take clomid?
Question:
<< I was told I have one follicle ready to come out. My question is: How do they know this is an egg versus a cyst that may have been there for a while? A baseline ultrasound was not done so how can they tell? I think they can tell by the appearance of the follicle or cyst as to which it is. That is, I believe a cyst looks different than a follicle. I don’t know the specifics, tho. Will check around. Maybe someone else knows?
Response:
I think on the ultrasound a follicle will be white in color and a cyct will be a darker black?? i’m not sure though.

<<I think on the ultrasound a follicle will be white in color and a cyct will be a darker black?? i’m not sure though. I don’t think so. My follicles are always black-looking on ultrasound (altho it depends on the equipment…they looked blacker on my old RE’s machine than they do on my current one’s). I think it has more to do with shape……I will continue to investigate this one.
Response:
I think it might be the opposite. When I had my first u/s after using Follistim, the RE said the black things on the screen were my eggs. Vikki M. I think on the ultrasound a follicle will be white in color and a cyct will be a darker black?? i’m not sure though.

How does the dr check for cysts? Is it a manual exam?
Response:
<<How does the dr check for cysts? Is it a manual exam? Some docs (ob/gyns) might try to get away with a binamual exam, but the best way to check is to have a transvaginal ultrasound.

I just had a transvaginal ultrasound yesterday and a PCT today after taking 50mg of Clomid this month. I was told I have one follicle ready to come out. My question is: How do they know this is an egg versus a cyst that may have been there for a while? A baseline ultrasound was not done so how can they tell? Forgive my ignorance, I have just started the process this month and didn’t really have any high hopes that 50mg Clomid would even work at all. Thanks for any help.

<< I started the Provera again today. Do you think I should try Clomid now too or is it to early go go on this drug? You can start clomid with your next cycle (after you get a period from the Provera). I don’t think your doctor is being too aggressive at all. At a minimum, just make sure she checks your ovaries for cysts between clomid cycles.
Response:
Does clomid cause cysts?
Response:
<<Does clomid cause cysts? It sure *can*!! (been there…I used to always have to take off the next cycle and take bcp’s, to let cysts go away before starting clomid again….it gave me a few pretty big ones.) Also, this is why it is so important to be checked for cysts prior to starting subsequent clomid cycles. If you have a cyst (not the pco type) and then take clomid, the cyst may prevent the clomid from working, or the cyst may enlarge and rupture, which could, in a worst case scenario, lead to the loss of an ovary.
Response:
Not directly. Anytime you are making eggs (naturally or with drug therapy) you have the risk of developing cysts. Of all the drugs out there clomid is the least invasive. Go ahead, give it a try. Maybe it’ll work!

Four months ago I had to take Provera to jump start my period. The provera worked and I had 3 regular cycles afterwards in which I ovulated on day 18 (i’m told). I didn’t get pregnant but we had just started with the basal charts and didn’t know the optimum timing yet. The forth month I didn’t ovulate and missed a period. I started the Provera again today. Do you think I should try Clomid now too or is it to early go go on this drug? My dr prescribed Clomid but she seems very aggressive and I’m not sure if she is too aggressive. What
