Spotting for the First Time

Lydia, I know it’s been a while since you posted this message.  Have you found any answers?  I know that is why you came to this group, and quite frankly I am surprised that no-one has answered this here.  I have not experienced this myself. I have a question for you:  Do you know why your doctor put you on tri-phasic bcp’s? The first thing that crossed my mind when I read your post was ovulatory bleeding.  This sometimes happens.  Also, maybe a piece of "old" endometrium just hung around a little too long.  But as your mom said, the question of pregnancy is also a possilibity.  I know you would probably know that by now. Do you ovulate?  Women with PCO often don’t.  Sometimes, when women with PCO have periods, thay are just due to a build-up of the endometrium.  At some point the body realizes that no baby is there, even though it does not go through the  drop in progesterone that brings on a period in "normal" women.  This type of bleeding is characterized by no or little cramping, very long or very short periods (depending on how long it has been since the last one), and no real signs of PMS. Let us know what you learn. -Christine Christine G. (UpdeG…@aol.com) from Ohio

Ever since I was diagnosed with PCO in July, it seems like I am always searching for answers. For the first time in my life (and I have been on BCP on and off, mostly on, for the last seven yrs.), I have been spotting between periods. This started happening after I had my period over the Thanksgiving holidays. The second week into my BCP pills I had brownish light spotting that over the course of four days became lightly pink and then more similar to how I bleed the first day of my period (a light red discharge). The spotting started again during the last week of my active pills (I was put on Ortho Tri Cyclen after the PCO diagnosis). Like the last time, the spotting took place over a four day period though the discharge was slightly thicker. I also had some discomfort in my ovaries. When my period came on the next week, it was heavier than usual and was dark red (almost purplish) and it was clumpy most of the time. (Sorry for the need for the description.) This past Mon., after my period had ended, I only noticed once a brownish looking discharge. This is all to ask if anyone is familiar with this … I don’t think I am pregnant but my Mom is always telling me that she had her period when she was pregnant. Plus, my mother lost a tube to an ectopic pregnancy and I don’t know if they run in families. And if I’m not pregnant and I don’t have a history of spotting on birth control pills, what could cause me to be spotting all of a sudden. Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations. :-0 As usual, when all of this was happening, I was either out of town or it was the holidays and the doctor was not in the office or by the time she did return to office I was not in a position to call bf the office closed. I haven’t noticed any more spotting since Mon. but stomach has been slightly upset since last night. A Constantly Frustrated and Confused Lydia
