D-chiro-inositol info

Question:

One kitten has opened it’s eyes!!!!!!   So cute!! Actually, we were told our cat was already fixed when we got her….then on the day we were moving she got out of the house (she is an indoor cat) for the day and boom she was having kittens……  It was quite a surprise!!!!!! Please don’t scold at me about the kittens…we plan to keep two of them and give one to a friend. One…two…three… (in chorus) "AAAaaaawwwww!"   ;-) > Actually, we were told our cat was already fixed when we got her

Oh, good, recycling!  Best way to get a pet, hands down! > on the day we were moving she got out of the house (she is an indoor > cat)

Hooray!  Extra brownie points for an indoor cat — they live so much longer, healthier lives. > for the day and boom she was having kittens……  It was quite a > surprise!!!!!! Please don’t scold at me about the kittens…we plan to > keep two of them and give one to a friend.

Good for you!  My scold is fully retracted.  <bg>  Congrats again on the little ones; sounds like you’re having loads of fun with them.  And maybe they’ll give you a group rate if you get them all fixed at once; I’ve known several vets who do that.   -Janet    253/228/Linda Hamilton in T2

Thank you for a very interesting post!!! Before I was married and trying to have children, I heard a few ladies in my area were giving advice for women to try wheat germ to help them get pregnant, and apparently it worked for some.  I didn’t know if it was an old wives tale, or just helpful, or what, because I didn’t pay much attention at the time.  Well, I see wheat germ is #3 on the list, so that might explain why it helped some of them.  :) I also recall that lecithin is helpful in lowering cholesterol.  I took it at some point for that reason (again, that was also before I was ttc). I’m really starting to wonder whether the effectiveness of low-carb dieting isn’t just a big coincidence!  D-chiro-inositol is found in soy, veggies and fruits, beef, beans…many of the same things people on low-carb tend to eat a lot more of! When I started doing LC, I made myself a milkshake each morning with a protein supplement which got its protein from…soy!  I knew I felt better eating that way, now I wonder if it wasn’t because I was getting a big dose of D-chiro-inositol every morning. > BTW, my cat just had kittens today!!!!  3 healthy ones.

Aaw…I just love cute little kitties… Now, as a veterinarian, I just have to say two things… 1) Did you take momma and babies to the vet for a check-up yet?  How are they doing? 2) <scold mode on> If your cat had babies obviously she is both *not* spayed, and has access to at least one male cat who isn’t neutered. *Please*, tell me you’ll take care of that situation, and look to your local shelter for any more additions to the household!  There are too many cats out there who desperately need homes already!  <scold mode off> And from the non-vet, cuddly-lovin’ side of me, Congratulations!!! ;-) -Janet    253/228/Linda Hamilton in T2

Hi everyone, I received a few e-mails asking me how to find info on D-chiro-inositol so I thought maybe I’d just share the info here.  I went to the library and looked it up in medical research articles, but didn’t find a whole lot of info, but what I did find was mostly articles on research being done with diabetes.  When searching for it on the web I also only found a few sites, but here is the sum of everything I found out. D-chiro-inositol (D-chiroinositol) can be found in relation to myo-inositol.  This article here states:  "D-chiro-inositol can be obtained from the diet in the form of pinitol, a methyl inositol found in legumes." http://medicine.wustl.edu/~rescolla/res_collab97/html/D-CHIRO-INOSITO… I also did a search on inositol and found these sites among tons of others: http://bookman.com.au/vitamins/inositol.html http://www.healthy.net/library/books/haas/vitamins/inositol.htm What inositol does: "Inositol is found as a component of phospholipids in the brain, skeletal, heart, and male reproductive tissues. It functions in nerve transmission, the regulation of enzyme activity and the transportation of fats within the body. Inositol is essential for hair growth and can prevent some cases of thinning hair and baldness. It helps reduce high cholesterol and is important for the heart. Inositol is also beneficial for the nerves, for the treatment of eye abnormalities, eczema and some cases of obesity."  (Found this info on one of the  websites.) It looks like a really good source of inositol is Lecithin Granules (this is from Soy) and amazingly my husband bought some Lecithin Granules a couple of months ago for me, but I left it sitting on the shelf and never touched it.  He said he had no idea why he got it and just thought it might be a good thing.  Well I decided yesterday to start taking it mixed in a glass of water 2 times a day.  The label recommends 4 times a day, but I decided to start out slowly and see what happens.  I already knew from my mother that Lecithin is really good for the diet, but I was only taking a capsule of it every now and then. Here is a site I found on where to buy them online (although any health food store will do): http://www.lifesvigor.com/category/supplements/lecithin.html A complete list of foods that contain inositol (per 4 oz): Soy Lecithin   2100 mg Chickpeas       760 mg Brown Rice      700 mg Wheat germ      690 mg Lentils         410 mg Barley          390 mg Veal & Liver    340 mg Oats            320 mg Torula yeast    270 mg Beef            260 mg Alfalfa         240 mg Oranges         210 mg Peanuts         210 mg Molasses        180 mg Whole wheat     170 mg Peas            160 mg Grapefruit      150 mg Strawberries     95 mg Cauliflower      92 mg I hope this info helps.  =) Kayla BTW, my cat just had kittens today!!!!  3 healthy ones.
