HI! Well I’m back from my transfer trip and I’ll tell you , if the goal was to *not* cheat, I failed miserably. However I learned something about myself and this WOL whilst I was there. To quote Rosie ReadnPost: This is a way of life, not a punishment! I quickly discovered that staying on the diet while I was there was going to be a huge pain in the keister, so I asked myself, do I want to make what should be a fun, relaxing trip a miserable experience? The answer was no, so I ate like a carbo hog and loved every minute of it! I won’t go into what I had, as I don’t want to spark off anyone’s cravings, but suffice it to say that I had a little fling with everything I’ve missed. On the dark side, I’ve gained 16 pounds in three days. I found it interesting how sore my body became and how little rested I felt each morning. Further proof that LC is for me! I really missed the high energy level this diet has given me. In the end, I don’t feel guilty or like I failed. I feel like I really gained an insight on how to make this WOE work for me. After all, if I choose to LC for the rest of my life, what’s a buffet here and there really amount to anyway? Thanks for listening, if you are! BDJ (285-280-210) p.s. thanks Rosie! Ummmm…. yes it *is*. Do you think BDJ is lying or something? It would not be possible to gain this much fat. But water gains can be enormous in some people. BDJ has already posted that he *lost* a great deal of water initially on LC, if I remember correctly. This would indicate a pretty high propensity for holding onto excess water or edema. Carbing up would tend to bring the water back, and quickly, in such people. This is actually not at all uncommon in people who have quite a bit of weight to lose. Just another reason why LC is a good health choice for a lot of people… dragging around an extra 20 or so pounds of water is certainly not good for someone. Linnen

BDJ, You know, I just thought I’d take a minute to respond to your original post, which was quite insightful. We kind of all got off on a tangent with RayMan, didn’t we? ;o) This is the MAIN reason why I’m still lowcarbing after nearly a year. Hey, I’m not perfect… I’ve had my ‘cheats’ as we call them. The thing is that I almost always plan them. A 1-2 day carb-up once every couple of months seems to actually jumpstart my metabolism for whatever reason. I, too, physically feel bad for a few days afterward and it only serves to cement my resolve to stay lowcarb for life. Actually, when I plan the cheats in advance and take the scientific/investigative approach it gives me a great sense of power over my body. By the time my carb-up is over, I’m only too happy to go back to my lowcarb WOL. My body just doesn’t like all that sugar anymore. One thing that keeps me strict in my planning is that I can only do a carb-up at certain times of the month because I’ve found as a woman with PCOS and infertility just *one* high carb day at the wrong time in my cycle can completely throw off my ovulation and/or TOM. That is BIG clue to me that carbs and my body DO NOT mix well. I can’t believe in all those years I never noticed the drug-like effect that starches and sugar had on my body. I’ll never go back to my old way of eating… and the great thing about my cheats is that they’ve made me a believer.
