Question:
It sounds like you have pco if you have little cysts all over your ovaries. That’s what we have and the irregular periods.I don’t know if you could have normal hormone levels though.Robin
Response:
Hi, I’m Michele and am 28 years old. For what seems like forever now I’ve had all the symptoms of pcos, without it ever being diagnosed. My periods have always been irregular (sometimes I can go for a stretch of ‘normality’ if you call 38 day cycle normality other times it can be 18 months without a thing). During the past 10 years I’ve slowly gained far too much weight, but could never understand why it happened, I don’t eat a high fat diet, I do crave bread like it’s going out of fashion, and last year I started to get ‘whiskers’ on my face, side of the nose, chin those kinds of areas. I’ve always seen the doctor, who once they’d ruled out pregnancy, and STD’s have just said, I shouldn’t worry it’ll all be okay. Weight gain was put down to my diet, one doctor told me I was lazy. I’ve got two children, and so when I saw the symptoms of pcos thought I couldn’t have this, as the infertility didn’t fit. Then last year I finally met a doctor who after listening to my symptoms for two mintues (I’m growing hair doctor, and where the hell is all this weight coming from?) said, have you ever missed your periods? I was shocked, he was so tuned in, got the necessary tests done and diagnosed me. What a relief it was to find a reason for all of my problems, you don’t realise how these things actually all drag you down until you’re on the way back up. Suddenly I wasn’t fat because I stuff cakes and biscuits etc (because I don’t), after all the nasty comments I’ve heard over the years I wanted a t-shirt printing with Polycystic and proud on it. But now I’ve hit the dilemma, my doctor has moved on, and my gp is only offering dinette, which will treat some, but not the weight gain, which is what I really want to tackle. Any ideas?
