Hey, I fell off the wagon at my Mom’s this past Holiday weekend and feel horrible for several days-gas, bloating, ehhhh….at least I didn’t gain any weight back that I had lost (I was afraid I would).  When I watch the carbys, I have great blood sugar (am type 2).  It really does work wonders. I know in the low-carb diet group, many of the "normal" women are often mentioning they have too frequent cycles–with us it might just enough to give us cycles ;-)  ^–^ { ‘.’}cathy-to send e-mail, delete edyclub    `   My web page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Cottage/8060/index.html Hope for Cysters: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Cottage/8060/PCOS.html

I hadn’t had a period in over 9 months — on my 6th day of low carbing (thus equaling out my levels), I got my period…  I know it’s connected to low carbing — I’ve gone a LONG time without a period in the past, and always had fair warning it was coming because I felt so lousy.  This time, it’s been an absolute breeze — no cramps, etc…  I’m hooked on low carbing :)  Plus, after 12 days, I’m down 15 pounds !

I found it very successful…if one is very disciplined about it.  I didn’t have a lot of weight to lose compared to many women with PCO (I’m not TTC).  I started March 2, 1998 at 165 and by mid-September, I weighed 120.  Size 16-20 to a size 10.  I have more or less maintained that weight since then on the maintenance phase of Protein Power (which is the diet I used) 1500mg of Metformin and working out three times a week (I didn’t start Metformin until late November).  I still take a lot of vitamins and minerals every day…even more than are recommended on the Protein Power diet.  I think the supplements are important for maintaining overall health. Every once and a while, I cheat and eat more carbs for a few days, but then I feel bloated and run down and get back on it.  The most empowering thing is feeling that for the first time in ages, I have control of my weight and I don’t fear type II diabetes like I used to. I have also heard of women in the chat group losing in excess of 100 pounds.  So if it’s weight loss you’re after, I would highly recommend it.  As for pregnancy, I can’t vouch for that, as it’s not my goal (I completed my family in my early-mid 20’s…before I became PCO). There are also positive side effects I have noticed with low-carb. Lower triglycerides and overall blood lipids, increased energy, the near-disappearance of frequent headaches, body odour improvement, greatly decreased incidence of colds, stomach flu and infections, less bloating & cramps during AF, heartburn and digestive upsets gone.  My periods are regular now, about 27-30 days.

Dear All Does anyone know how successful a low carb’ diet is? Thanks, RJ

I find it very successful in helping to both lose weight and reduce the symptoms of PCOS.  It is now my way of life! Dina —
