New to this group. Thanks for all the information

Question:

Hello, my name is Kirsten (32 years) from Germany. I’m very happy that I have found this newsgroup. Thank you for all the important information posted in this newsgroup.I found this newsgroup while searching on the net for some information about serenoa repens for high testosterone levels. (My testosterone is very high, I have a bad case of pco) (AF only 3 or 4 times in the past years) Than I found this wonderful newsgroup. The first time in my live I heard of Metformin. The first thing I thought was: OK, this is not available in Germany, otherwise my GYN would have given this to me. But it is available. My Doc didn’t believe me that PCO has something to do with Insulin-Levels and IR. I printed out all the information I got from the net and gave it to him. Since Jan. I’m taking 2000 mg Metformin a day. Now it is the second time that AF comes (this year!!). I lost 16 lbs and do the Atkins-diet. I feel very well!! Thank you very much for all your input. I’m very happy that I have found this ng. (Sorry for my english!) Kirsten

Kristin, Congratulations on being so informed and educating your doctor.  It’s amazing how many doctors, even in the states, don’t know about Metformin or an insulin relationship to PCOS.  Many thanks for being a strong voice for PCOS in Germany, I’m sure you have helped other women by being so persistant. Be well and best wishes, Jennifer

*Gak*!  I am so amazed, and sad for some of you…My Dr. sat me down and gave me a very detailed explanation of PCOS and I feel like I’m in great hands. There was also an article recently in the Washington Post about PCOS (I’ll link it later) and my Doc. said a lot of people called him after seeing it, so the story is finally getting out…!  yay!

I’m so happy that you found a doctor in Germany.  They are very sceptical.  I’m also from Germany (Berlin), but now live in the US.  My age is 35 and I went through a lot.  All they told me in Germany is to loose weight.  I was even hospitalized on 400 calories for on month in Germany.  I didn’t loose weight, and was dismissed as a cheater.  You are so lucky.  I’ve met a woman from Germany at a PCOS conference, who flies to the US to seek treatment.  Well, she is rich, so she can do that.
