Question:

hi, i’m very new to this board. especially the alt groups. i was refered here by pcos.net and have been wanting to improve my eating habits. i’m not overweight but i’ve been told that eating a low-carb diet will increase my chances of conceiving. i was pregnant last year. but baby miscarried 3 months into. my questions: what atkin’s book do i get? i’ve searched for his books through amazon and there a quite a few. which one would i start with? i was raised in an asian household so i’m use to eating white rice with literally ever meal. i’ve managed to just cut it down to just dinners. hubby will not take less than that! will i have to give that up? i’d really like to get started and get a baby soon. i’m not in a hurry. i’m just miss the feeling. bleh. i’m at 124 lbs. i’d like to lose a little weight. maybe 8 or 9. and maintain that. i’m 5′4". even though i want to get pregnant. i still want to fit into size 3’s while i’m getting there. i’m a – stephanie KISS ME! i’m irish… http://mixxed.ph

Get his latest book 2001-2002 edition, I think all titles are the same. You may want to try Protein Power or Carb Addicts or Sugar Busters if you must have white rice.  Can use switch to brown? I don’t know much about PCOS but if giving up the rice will help you conceiving would that not be worth it? Desiree

Stephanie, how are your insulin levels?  I read a study in an OB/GYN journal that said miscarriages among PCOS patients  were at 50% if they had high insulin levels. The study said when the insulin levels were brought down (they used metformin but I would think a diet could do the same) the levels came down to 10%. In fact, that’s why I’m trying to lose weight & bring my insulin down, because I knew in advance this might be problem in any pregnancy I might attempt. Hope this helped in some way. Lisa :o )
