This is mainly for Reb, but thought others may be interested too. Reb, I ran across this site today and thought of you. http://repro-med.net/papers/progest.html — Nicole ===> remove "devnull" from my address to reply <===

Thanks Nicole.  I was hoping to get my progesterone level checked, and this gave me good information on what to look for, and what to ask for if I need supplementation. Reb

i am a migraine sufferer as well.  i have had them since i was 6 years old. i have classic migraines.  there are many other types.  i get a sensitivity to light  and noise at first onset, sometimes i even see blinking shapes in front of me.  as it progresses i get nauseous, that is from all the serotonin being released into the gut.  then i get HORRIFIC PAIN.  i can’t function at all. just want to crawl in a dark hole and die.   it took a lot of experimenting before i found what worked for me.  i tried the usual migraine drugs at first, like Cafergot and other pain meds,    but they never helped me.  i had an mri done to rule out anything serious when i was a teen. ( i know now, i do have a brain.) finally i went to a headache and neurology center when i lived in NJ.  they offered many ways to help.  unfortunately, biofeedback did not help me, but drugs finally have.  i was on Fiorinal with codeine at the time i went to the H and N center, but  they informed me that it  causes rebound migraines, so i went off of that years ago, well that explained a lot.  no wonder they were getting worse.  i went on Inderal LA, a beta blocker,  it worked for a while but once the migraines got worse i found Anaprox.  Anaprox is a Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug (NSAID). mine is prescription.  i tried aleve, which is over the counter but it did not work at all for me.   i take the Anaprox when ever i feel one coming on or let one go way too far. (i think, oh maybe it will just go away by itself this time, but it never does)  usually within 25 minutes of taking the Anaprox i feel relief. sometimes it helps if i go into a dark room with an icepack or take a scalding hot, burn your butt (byb)kind of shower.  i put my head under the hardest massage setting on my showerhead.  i aim the jet where the pain is and stick my fingers in my ears. it works great at sounding like white noise in my head.  the heat actually helps the pain and so does the pounding water.  i hate it when the hot water runs out.  sometimes i even alternate byb showers and ice until it goes away, just so i don’t have to think about THE PAIN.  good luck in your search.  email me if you need more tips. barb bkja…@yahoo.com – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -kmejones wrote in message … >Hi. Hi. This isn’t totally relevant to PCOS, but I need some help in this area. Migraines!!! Any ideas for how to cope. I’ve tried homeopathy, accupuncture, Chinese herbs, massage, my dr., ice packs, hot water bottles, sleep, caffeine, and diet changes. Any other ideas. I’ve had five migraines of 6-12 hours duration each since Thursday and I’m starting to get the aura of a sixth. I’m gonna try to get back in to my GP today & get a new prescription. I’ve had them since I was 11 but never like this. Usually I get a smell beforehand, not a visual aura, take my homeopathic stuff & go lie down for a few hours & it goes. I also usually only get one every few months. In fact, prior to this I hadn’t had one in about 7 months. I can’t function. I can’t work. I’m missing my placement…I’m in a nursery for 2 weeks and there’s no way I can do that right now. I’m gonna get DH to check this for me later since I’ll be lying in a darkened room hoping to die or something. Any help would be great.         –KT Sharene <sha…@home.com> wrote in message

What have you tried in the area of conventional medicine?  There are lots of newish meds available that might do the trick for you. (If your GP can’t help, ask for a referral to a headache specialist or neurologist.) Naomi

May I make a suggestion, of course you probably have already done this.  Document when you have the migraine, during cycle, after changes in pills or dosage, etc.  Any time my doc. messed with my pills I would get migraines.  I was given Imitrex.  I can always tell when my migraines are coming because my blind spot will get absolutely huge, scarry to drive home with.  I would take the Imitrex during this time and, I knew I had about a 20 minute window, and then would close my self off and it would definitely not get as bad as if I had done nothing.  I know it’s just another pill and you may have already tried Imitrex, but if not….. Good Luck and I do think this is a PCO thing cause I know mine came when my hormones were messed with, laura k

My suggestion:  Try the meds.  You’ll find the problem with food will probably dissapper or become much less of an issue.  Mine went from about a 8/10 to about a 3/10, no it’s not perfect, but it’s much better. I couldn’t take the pill.  When I was put on it I got a bad reaction.  Serious blurred vision, dizziness and uncontrollable shaking and crying.  Weird huh? Did anyone else ever get a bad side effect from the pill? I was taking Provera, which helped and I felt good on it for a long time, but then I started peri and my world got turned upside down again. I’m currently on natural micronized progesterone capsules.  I’m going for a sugar test this week, they think I’m insulin resistance.  I know I have some sort of sugar problem.   I’m going to try and deal with it, (if I do have a problem) with diet.  I don’t want to take any medication. Is anyone dealing with insulin resistance naturally? Gina Marie

I didn’t get those particular side effects, except the emotional one. But I also got very very bad migraines a few days before my period that got worse and worse and lasted longer and longer. When it got to the point they were lasting 4 entire days I said "Enough!" and quit taking them. It took two years after that for the monthly migraine to go away.
