I do the shakes with Rezulin. I have been warned about getting too little carbs but I think I am doing just fine. The shake is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I am having a hard time remembering that a protein snack is okay. For so long, I have been on the "no snakcs" ever diets that it is hard to realize that a snack can and should be used when needed. I apologize for asking this but I missed this thread. What are the names of the protein shakes that are good and where can they be found? Thanks much. Hi Sarah- The protein shake of choice for most of us is from GNC and is the Challenge brand Milk & Egg Protein. Each serving (about 2 heaping TBS.) is 4 carbs, and I mix mine with half and half, a little sugar free jello ( gelatin for the vanilla and strawberry, pudding for the chocolate, vanilla and strawberry – your choice of flavor – go crazy with this part!) and a handful of ice cubes. Sometimes, with the vanilla, I also add the sparking mandarin orange SF jello, a little more vanilla flavoring and a touch of orange flavoring. That combination is yummy. Tonight, tho, I expanded a little further and to the strawberry flavor I added 2 fresh strawberries, cut up. Decadent!! Very filling, and, for me, an effective way to drop a few pounds. I’m using it like a slim fast plan, two shakes a day, and a controlled carb meal in between. Sorry this post is so long…but get some and enjoy!! Happy slurping! I have a tip you might want to try, with your protien mix also add the same amount of JELLO sugar and fat free choclate pudding, the more you add the more it is like actual pudding but it is wonderful and you get your CHOCLATE without any sugar of fat!!! just a suggestion.its even good made with water, I also put in a couple ice cubes and blend! its a real treat!!

Okay, here is the recipe I use that I found at http://www.fatkat.com. 1/4 cup cottage cheese 1/4 cup cream 1/2 cup water 1 Tablespoon protein powder 3 Sweet-n-low packets 1/4 teaspoon sugar free vanilla (I use Spice Islands Pure Vanilla) 1/4 cup egg beaters 1 Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa (I use Ghirardelli’s) 4 or 5 ice cubes or one cup crushed ice Blend well in a blender. You can replace the chocolate with strawberries if you like. HTH, Louise

This is a super recipe!!! I just tried it today. I used Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Egg Protein–Chocolate. I didn’t use any cocoa, used 1/4 cup water, and used 7 ice cubes. It came out perfect!! Definitely didn’t use any strawberries in it. Darlene

I got the vanilla protein powder so I could try strawberries later. :-) My blender must stink. I can’t do more than 5 ice cubes or it won’t blend. I like the extra water cause I need it where I can get it. :-) Glad you like it. It is my favorite thing about the change in my eating habits. No other diet would have dared let me have anything close to it every day. :-) Louise

Hey Louise! I couldn’t agree with you more about the Optimum Nutrition 100% Egg Protein. I just bought my second container of chocolate, and bought my first vanilla. Tonight I had the vanilla with some sparking orange jello (sugar free), a little orange extract, some half and half and flax oil, and ice cubes. More than satisfying, and yummy too. I would also like to report to everyone that for the last two weeks I have been doing two shakes a day, one normal meal (watching carbs, but not obsessively so) a couple of protein snacks, and I have dropped 8 lbs.!!! And the best part is that it doesn’t slow me down in the least. On the days when I feel like gorditas from Taco Bell, I get one, and follow with a shake for dinner. It is rare for me to have food for dinner now…the shake sits so much better on my tummy at night. I guess this must be the pcos’ers answer to the Slim-Fast plan…;-) good luck with yours! About $20 for a big canister at GNC. If you have their gold card, you can get 20% off one day a month–that is what I do. Darlene

Is anyone doing the protein shake thing with Metformin? Because you must have food or milk with the meds, this seems like a perfect option. Anyway, y’all are making me really crave a big, frothy shake! I’m not fond of eggs and bacon in the morning and I need something that I can eat or drink at work. I go in at 4:30am and really don’t want anything to eat until about 6:30. The old plan was a big bowl of oatmeal or a biscuit. Now, with the lower carb way, I need something handy and fulfilling. Do the shakes sound like they would fit the bill? Y’all are the greatest, Kelly in TN

I had my first shake this morning for breakfast and I was so impressed. I used two scoops of vanilla flavored powder, some whipping cream, water and sugar free chocolate pudding mix! I was amazed at how good and how filling it was. It sure helped that morning Metformin settle. I think this stuff should be bottled. It’s a heck of a lot better than Slim Fast ever thought of being! Thanks for all the tasty suggestions. Kelly in TN

I was just wondering if they sell the shake in single packets. I would hate to spend the money on the large container and then find out I don’t like it! Thanks! Maureen

I think it was on here that someone talked about a high protein shake that they used. Can anyone help me? I bought one type of protein powder but it tastes soooooo chalky and I thought I remembered someone talking about a powder that actually didn’t taste too bad. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. I really am wanting chocolate and it’s killing me. Lori

I have been using the Fit America protein supplements. The shakes (which I make into a pudding) have 15gms of protein and 5gms of carbs. I like the chocolate best. As a pudding it is fine when made on water.

Hey there Lori- I don’t remember when it was originally posted, but I do remember how happy she was with the product, and since I was desperate to eat something other than bacon and eggs for breakfast, I asked her about it. Here’s the *scoop*: The product I use is from GNC, Challenge Low-Fat Milk & Egg Protein powder. I have both the chocolate and strawberry flavors. I mix one portion (about 1 1/2 T. heaping) with half and half, about a tablespoon of flavored jello (for the chocolate I use instant sugar-free Jello pudding, for the strawberry I use sugar-free jello) and enough ice cubes to make it frothy. It is really yummy and holds me until mid afternoon. The other product I use is also by GNC, and is the isolated soy Protein 95 vanilla mix. It does tend to be chalky, but my dh and I experimented with it, mixed the scoop with about 1/3 cup warm water, and let it sit for a few minutes. It took care of the chalkiness pretty well. One of the other pcos-ers gave us an absolutely delicious recipe for using this particular product, so look back in the postings. I think she got the original recipe from the low-carb newsgroup. I have been using these shakes for the past two weeks, like slim-fast, and have definately seen a reduction in weight. I’m not hungry, I’m satisfying my chocolate/sugar cravings a good way, and the only extra supplement is a real meal one time a day (usually lunch) and some protein snacks twice a day. sorry this is so long, but I thing this is an important bit of progress for all of us… good luck!
