This doesn’t make any sense to me. If using met has normalized your blood work, why quit? That just means it’s doing what it’s supposed to. Presumably if you stop using it your hormone levels will return to where they originally started. Met isn’t a cure for insulin resistance; it has to be used continually to treat what is a chronic condition. > Meanwhile, I’m so tired, I can hardly function, I haven’t > cycled since July when I went off the BCP’s, and he put me on Provera 5 days a > week to get my periods revved up. 40 mg is the standard dose for Celexa. Almost everyone needs 40 mg to see real results. Your dosage should have been increased a long time ago without you having to specifically ask for it. I also take Celexa for depression and Provera to jump start my periods. Normally Celexa alone can control my depression, but I have found that the Provera definitely makes me depressed again while I’m taking it. You might want to consider discontinuing using it until the depression is under control. > I don’t know > anymore what to ask for, what I need, or how to proceed. While a sensible diet and regular exercise are good advice for just about everybody, they are not a cure-all for PCOS, and losing weight is much more difficult for people with our disorder. If the doctor was suggesting that the PCOS is your fault because you’re overweight, that’s pretty damn insensitive, not to mention ignorant. Definitely a case of putting the cart before the horse. Frankly, I’m not terrible impressed with the treatment you have gotten from this guy. I think you should get a second opinion from a different doctor, preferably someone with a proven record for treating PCOS. I suggest you take copies of both your old and new blood tests with you to the new doc to demonstrate that the met is working, and discuss the possiblity that Provera is making you more depressed. Depression is a serious illness, and in my view it’s probably even more import to regulate that than to regulate your periods. Good luck with all this. You’re not crazy, you’re just not getting the treatment you need. Keep demanding good treatment, and if you can’t get it from the doctor you’re seeing now, go see someone else. You deserve to get well. Don’t accept anything less. If you have any questions or want to talk, feel free to email me personally. —- Asenath Waite <asen…@obscure.org>

I was put on Met last July. Been taking 1750 mg. a day since then. Went back to endo today. Bloodwork came back in normal levels, so he now wants me to come off of it. Meanwhile, I’m so tired, I can hardly function, I haven’t cycled since July when I went off the BCP’s, and he put me on Provera 5 days a week to get my periods revved up. I’m also so depressed, I don’t know what to do. I’m on Celexa. He agreed to increase that to 40 mg. a day. I don’t know anymore what to ask for, what I need, or how to proceed. His answer today was to eat sensibly and exercise. I know that’s what I should do, but I’ve been on every diet known to man and I’ve lost more weight over the course of my life than I weigh right now. Any advice. I’m really sad about all of this and could really use some advice and/or encouragement. Thanks! –Kristina

Why? If the med makes you normal. Does he want your bloodwork to screw up again? > Meanwhile, I’m so tired, I can hardly >function, I haven’t >cycled since July when I went off the BCP’s, and he put me on Provera 5 days >a week to get my periods revved up. Provera does that to people. I took it on and off for 3 years and felt the worse I had EVER felt in my life. > I’m on Celexa. He agreed to increase that to 40 mg. a day.
I am unfamiliar with this. >I don’t know anymore what to ask for, >what I need, or how to proceed. His >answer today was to eat sensibly and exercise.
That is what many drs. need to do, unfortunately. Thankfully, mine knew that I would be more successful in that if my PCOS was controlled first. My RE told me that PCOS made weight loss hard. He is smart enough to blame the weight on PCOS and not the other way around like other drs do. I have been on Met since May and it is just now regulating my periods, etc. It takes take to get "straightened out". Many women have to go to the max dose to see results and then maybe stay on the medication for a while before it works for them. If you can’t tolerate Met, there is Avandia and Actos as well. It is a struggle and will take time. If you dr. doesn’t seem that helpful, find another one. Also, with the Provera. My ob-gyn had me taking it on and off for 3 years and I was close to suicide because of the effects. My RE gave me a prescription for Prometrium (which I only had to use one time!). It is not as bad as Provera. ^—^ Cathy { ‘ . ‘ } ` Those who play with cats must expect to be scratched. 4Cysters: http://pages.ivillage.com/bh/cystercat Other pages: http://peaceonearth.faithweb.com http://littlec.faithweb.com http://www.i-love-cats.com/meow/cat

Hi Kristina, I do agree with LOW-Carbing and less stressful excerise like walking, leg lifts on the floor in front of the tv. I have been getting success with just those. When it comes to your Doc. I agree with Cathy on that, why take you off your metformin if it is working? Provera made me sooo mean when I took that, I actually think I could have hurt somebody (my hubby) if I didn’t go off of them. Thank the Lord I did go off of them. I could not stand myself. I don’t know what the other drug is. I would definatley search for a new Doc though because he sounds like he doesn’t know too much about what he is doing….Let us know … God Bless and Hang In There!!!, TracyP Cathy the Cat Loving Cyster wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> >I was put on Met last July.
