Question:
doesn’t gloucophage sometimes have a side effect of kidney or liver not functioning properly? Glucophage will not *cause* kidney or liver disfunction, but if you have a problem with your kidneys or liver, then the excess can’t be excreted which might eventually lead to lactic acidosis. This is a big concern with diabetics, esp. elderly ones, who often develop kidney problems as a complication of diabetes. ^—^ Cathy { ‘ . ‘ } ` Those who play with cats must expect to be scratched. 4Cysters: http://pages.ivillage.com/bh/cystercat Other pages: http://peaceonearth.faithweb.com http://littlec.faithweb.com http://www.i-love-cats.com/meow/cat

Hi all, I am going back for a follow up bloodwork for my PCOS. I can’t remember what testing should be done. I am having a GTT that I know of. Is there any other testing that should be done? Say for the kidneys or liver. I seem to remember something about that. I am anxious to see what 3 months on gloucophage has done to my system. I know physically. I have lost 35lbs. Had 3 28 day periods. And felt better that I have in all my life. Although that could be because of the weight loss. But even when I was at this weight I never got periods. So I feel it’s the gloucophage. Donna

Hi Donna, Sorry that I can’t answer your question but congratulations on your fabulous results! Met is clearly a winner for you. We must have started about the same time and in my 3 months I’ve had 2 periods (a 35 day cycle) which thrilled me but despite some pretty decent (admittedly not excellent) effort, I’ve only lost 2 lbs. Lately, I’ve been reducing my carbs (still up around 80/day so by no means "low carb") and I’m curious if you’ve modified your diet at all in addition to the met? I am on 1500mg. I was low carbing in the beginning. Now I am not as strict. I just don’t over do it. But my weight isn’t going anywhere. Which is an improvement. I just had to look at food before and I gained weight. I started around the end of April. For the first week I was on 500mg, then second week 1000mg and third week 1500mg. I had allot of stomach problems lasting over 4 weeks. Now I just have to watch what I eat. Raw vegetables do a real number on me. But lettuce is the worst. And it lasts for over a day after I eat it. Good luck to others. Does anyone know what other tests should be done besides GTT? Donna "Karen Beckingham" <Karen_Becking…@REMOVETHISCanada.com> wrote in message

I am also curious as to something……I see many posters talk about doing the low carb diet….does anyone do any exercise? If so, did you exercise before? Or just start? What kind of exercise do you do????? kell
Response:
I just started low-carbing, so I don’t have any results yet. However, I do exercise and pretty regularly. 2-3x per week… sometimes more sometimes less. Depends on the schedule and what’s going on in real life. Sometimes just chasing my 5 year old around the yard with the dog is enough of a work out… or mowing the lawn or gardening. Although, when I’m not doing those… I rollerblade… do Tae-Bo… Walk… swim when I can get access to a lap pool. My weight has been holding steady now for about 2 months. I’m hoping the low-carb will help me get down to my goal. does someone know what other tests should be run to check the gloucophage? do I need to have the kidneys or liver checked? Donna

They generally run these tests before starting you on glucophage because people with kidney or liver problems may have a hard time excreting the excess. From time to time, your dr. may repeat the function tests. I guess how often is up to your doctor and how healthy you are. ^—^ Cathy { ‘ . ‘ } ` Those who play with cats must expect to be scratched. 4Cysters: http://pages.ivillage.com/bh/cystercat Other pages: http://peaceonearth.faithweb.com http://littlec.faithweb.com http://www.i-love-cats.com/meow/cat
