Timed intercourse w/ clomid and profasi..Question?

Camie had the weird habit of asking for Clomid that anyone had "lefted" over, and Camille here said that this would be her "lasted" child. HI. In Feb we are going to try conceiving once again. With 100 mg clomid and 5,000 profasi. Planned intercourse(not IUI). This will be our lasted child; due to age. Our 2nd child is 4 yrs old;and well- I kinda forget what we did exactly ;the lasted time we conceived. So if anyone can answer this question;please email me or post. My doctor saids: clomid 2-6,take temps and opk’s. Take profasi the day we get a + opk,and temp drop. (now my understanding is I won’t be monitored through any of this;which worries me alittle;since we would be happy with just 1 more child;not 2,3 or 4) (Don’t get me wrong;we would be thrilled with twins but would prefer just 1 more) If were waiting to give the profasi the day I get my + opk ; how soon would I ovulate? I know it’s sooner then the standard 36 hrs. I think I was told lasted time to wait 12 hrs to have intercourse; that I would ovulate within 24 hrs or sooner. Is that correct? Has anyone else out there done clomid and profasi with timed intercourse? And one more question; since were worried about multiples is it safe to say,doing clomid and profasi gives you a good chance on conceiving multiples? Sometimes I think maybe we should do clomid and not profasi,but I don’t ovulate sometimes even when I surge without the shot. If you can answer any of these questions; I thank you in advance. I want to add that I have posted here within the lasted 2 weeks checking to see if anyone has any leftover profasi or hcg;another lady on this board saids she got here meds here cheaper;my insurance doesant pay;so if anyone would have any;please email me. Sorry, but I am confused. . . In a previous post, you said that your doctor will *not* give you a prescription for an hCG shot.  This means you are self-medicating yourself? If you are, please reconsider.  You are putting your health at a considerable risk.  Also, please be decent and warn others who are kind enough to answer your questions, or worse – sell you drugs, that you are self-medicating. t.

I agree with what everyone here has said: find a new doctor. Clomid is supposed to help with ovulation. Without monitoring via ultrasound you have no clue if your lining is thick enough, if you have any folicles and when to take the HCG shot. I never used HCG with Clomid because my RE said that I didn’t ovulate with Clomid at all so  we had to move on to injectables with HCG. Your doctor needs to monitor your estrogen to makes sure you have a folicle and not a cyst. Tammy

On Clomid u *must* be monitored via ultrasound. There is an increased risk for ovarian cysts. If u develop a cyst and continue with treatment u could put yourself in jeapordy. I just cancelled a cycle due to a cyst. If I continued to do the cycle without knowing about this cyst…I would hate to see what would have happened. In order to use the HCG correctly u need to be monitored using ultrasound as well. The ultrasound is used to see the size of your follicles and how many could possibly mature. From what I understand, using HCG when your follicles arent large enough is a waste. Using HCG when u have too many mature follicles could put u at risk for multiples and hyperstimulation. U need to kick your MD to the curb and find a new one. Any MD who "recomends" meds without monitoring or taking responsibility to prescribe them has a couple of screws loose. Fertility meds can be fatal and dangerous is not used properly. When using meds without proper monitoring its like a crap shoot….especially when timing the HCG shot and intercourse. *~`~ Cyndie ~`~*

OK, this tells me that your doc is a quack. To echo what others have said, no doc worth his salt would ever "recommend" meds and then refuse to give you a script for them and he/she also would never put you on fertility meds without monitoring you since this can prove fatal. Many women on these boards have had to cancel cycles due to probs found while monitoring cycles. Secondly, if you are looking for a temp drop after ov then you’ll only find it if you’ve missed the window of conceiving. Temps *rise* at ov and if you’ve conceived they stay high or even get higher, if they’ve dropped after ov then you know you didn’t conceive that cycle. I would suggent you buy the book"Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Wechler. You can also purchase Ovusoft software that will help you in determining if you’ve ov’d or not. There are other programs out there that help you chart such as Fertility Friend. I’ve heard good things about Fertility Friend and I use Ovusoft myself. I think it’s invaluable since OPK’s don’t work for me because I have PCOS. Get yourself a new doc… preferably a Reproductinve Endocrinologist.
