Crinone 8% Needed (pg ment)

Question:

Dear friends in IF, I posted a few days ago in the survey that I was 11 dpo and not very hopeful this month.  Boy was I wrong!  I used a Confirm test on 15 dpo, and when the line didn’t show up right away I tossed it aside in disgust and went back to bed.  Got up 20 minutes later, wrote "neg. HPT" on my BBT chart and was grumpily wondering if I should make the switch to an RE when I picked the test stick up for a second look.  I saw two bold lines. A beta later that day came up as 230 mIU/ml, which strikes me as a bit high.  I have one tomorrow and hope it’s doubling. This was my umpteenth IUI, but my first on metformin (I have PCOS).  I used no stim meds or hCG.  I had no symptoms not ascribable to the progesterone.  I did spot at 13 DPO. . .almost a miniscule amount. I did use Crinone 8%.  The doctor said it may or may not actually support a pg, but what the heck, it’s insurance, right?  I would like to purchase more, but would like to avoid the $11 per day product my pharmacy sells. . or else it will be an impoverishing 10-12 weeks.  For some reason my insurance refuses to pay.  :-( I am also considering switching to progesterone suppositories.  Can anyone tell me what they cost on average? Finally, I want to thank everyone on this group who has been so supportive, informative and interesting.  You all have helped me to learn so very much.  Good luck to everyone at every stage of the game. Response:

Hi there- I am going through IVF for the 4th time in October- the reason I’m telling this is due to the fact that I was also using Crinone Vaginal gel with my 1st cycle- I had a miscarraige- due to what I believe was the crinone not doing its job (I also happened to be an IVF nurse at the facility where I was going through). My progesterone level was only 4- (it should have been at least 15)- so I started doing injections again- and 2 days later my level was 27- I can’t say this was soley due to the lack of progesteroen support- however it no doubt contributed to it- so my advise to you & others is do not use crinone if you need progesterone support- by the way when I found out- I went home tok out the crinone & shook it- then squeezed it out- one tiny little drop came out- so you just don’t know for sure you are getting the medication since the package is white plastic.  By the way the office has stopped using crinone altogether since this incidence.  Also, the progesterone supp. are less expensive- & seem to work better. Good luck- Tobey
