Curly Hair ??
Question:
I once heard Dr. Judy, a talk show host who gives love/sex advice, say that hormones can cause *pubic* hair to be straight. She didn’t say what hormones. Perhaps the same is true for scalp hair.
Response:
I also have naturally curly hair and its been falling out by the handfuls the last couple years. It used to be REALLY thick.I wonder if I took Met would my hair go strait?Hugs,Carolyn
Response:
after I had my son my hair was thicker and kinda wavy and more oily. It had always been straw straight and dry.

Cath – I can totally relate. I have always had VERY naturally curly hair, and very thick. So I figured that I would never have a hair loss problem, when reading about the symptoms associated with PCO. But within the last few months my brush is full of hair, and I always have lots come out when I wash my hair, too. My bangs do seem a little less thick … but I still feel like I have a complete head of hair, so I guess that’s ok. I think as you get older, your hair does become less curly. My mom said she completely lost all of her curl while she was pregnant with my brother, her first pregnancy. I think it has a lot to do with changing hormones. I guess I have the opposite. My hair has always been naturally curly and very thick. So thick that at times I’ve complained about having too much hair. I have PCOS and have never had the hair loss but lately I’ve began to notice that alot of my hair is in the brush and my bangs seem to be thinning out some. I’ll never complain about having too much hair again. LOL I have also noticed that it is gradually becoming less curly. It may just be me getting older and changing hair styles or something to do with PCOS. I’ll probably never know. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -ElizabthW wrote in message <19991226203231.01742.00002…@ng-bk1.aol.com>… >Hi Maggie, welcome to the NG! Hi Maggie, welcome to the NG! It’s funny that you asked about hair becoming curlier, because I’ve noticed that as I’ve become healthier, that’s exactly what’s happened to me! I attributed it to hormones, but I never thought to mention it here. When my PCO symptoms were really bad, my hair was dead straight, and because of its thickness, wouldn’t hold a curl for more than half an hour. Now that things are improving, my hair is quite wavy all of a sudden! It’s great. I really like this side effect of improved health! —Elizabeth

This is so weird that you ask this question. I’ve been on Met for a little over a year now. In the past 6 months or so, I’ve noticed some real short hairs around my face and asked the lady who cuts my hair about them. She told me it was new hair growth. Now that the new hair is getting a bit longer, it’s as curly as can be!!!! It looks kind of funny on me because the rest of my hair is perfectly straight (and always has been) and now I’m developing ringlets of curls around my face!!! My DH actually likes the effect and I guess I’m getting used to it. I don’t know if this has anything to do with Met or PCO or not. (I didn’t have a hair loss problem like some PCO women do.) I just thought I’d tell you that I’m developing curls too!! – Nicole ===> remove "devnull" from my address to reply <===

Hi all. I am new to this newsgroups and have a slightly odd question for you. About two years ago I started losing my hair and feeling generally unwell. I just blew it off for quite some time. Then 16 monthes ago I started losing the hair in huge quantities and was in constant pain. As well as being to sick to get out of bed. After 2 trips to the emergency room ( 8 hours each time ) I was referred to a GYN that Dx IR, PCOS, and Keto-acitosis <sp>. He has put me on Glucophage and Progesterone shots every 8 weeks. This treatment seems to have improved me quite a bit. Anyway, back to my original question; once I was on the Glucophage my hair started to grow back. Now the weird part. I have always have very straight hair. When it began to regrow I noticed that my hair was growing in curly. All of my hair is becoming curly, even hair that did not fall out. I am in no way upset about this, I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. The whole thing just seems odd to me. Thank you for listening to me ramble, Maggie

When I was younger, my hair was just wavy. My hair is now extremely curly. I’ve been told that the hormones that produce your hair change every 7 years, so your hair can drastically change when this occurs. This all happened before the onset of my PCOS, and curiously, my brother went through the same thing. "PrttyPrcil" <prttypr…@aol.com> wrote in message
