I'm confused (very long)

Question:

Thanks Kris and Reb!  I feel like I’m armed for my next appointment.  My doc is one that loves an informed patient. Jane Janelan…@hotmail.com Reb <RebREMOVEonREMOVEtheREMOVE…@cswebmail.com> wrote in message

Since you have other symptoms of PCOS, it is almost certain that your hormones are out of whack.  When that is the case, even if you are ovulating, it could be interfering with your fertility in several ways. It could cause your cervical mucous to be inhospitable to sperm. It could prevent a fertilized egg from ever implanting. It could cause a very early miscarriage (within days of fertilization) because your hormones are not sufficient to support the pregnancy. I could recommend that you get a complete hormone workup as a good place to start.  There is a good chance you could benefit from metformin. Good luck! Reb

Ok, so I haven’t posted in a week or so cause I’ve been so busy at work, but AF is here and it seems like I’ll never have a child. But I have a question…since having my ovaries wedge in June 98, AF arrives promptly each month and a Endo Biopsy last year confirmed I did ovulate and now I’m scheduled to have another to make sure I’m still ovulating.  DH is fine…no problem with him.  I don’t understand it, what else could be wrong??  They also plan to do a post-coital test and if there’s a problem there we’ll consider an IUI. But I do have Type II diabetes, which I can control with diet by cutting out sugar and white flour and those "simple" carbs…..sorry, but I never did well low-carbing.  I think I’m the only one that is made things worse, I know I might have went to low, but it doesn’t give "me" the benefits it gives others.  I do the best on moderate complex carbs. But I’m wondering if Metformin will help me…I seem to ovulate, but will it help in other ways?  My facial hair is still about the same, no more no less….my hair on my head is still as thin as ever, but I have lost some weight and my skin and hair is not nearly as oily as before the surgery. I asked my doc if it could be my weight, but doesn’t think that’s it…I still don’t know…I’m a size 18/20 classic apple shape only small busted. Most apple shaped women I know are big busted…lucky girls! Any thoughts or advice would greatly be appreciated. Jane Janelan…@hotmail.com

You didn’t mention this so forgive me if I’m stating the obvious … but are you charting your cycles to be sure that you’re having sex at the right time in your cycle?  I guess if you were charting, you’d know whether or not you’re still ovulating. Please check out Toni Weschler’s ‘Taking Charge of Your Fertility’ for more information on how to use cycle charting to acheive pregnancy.  You can get it at Amazon.com or probably in your local Barnes and Noble. It’s also possible that your luteal phase (the time between ovulation and when your period starts) is too short for implantation of the fertilized egg to occur in the uterus.  Charting your cycles would let you know this, too. The luteal phase needs to be at least 14 days long to allow implantation. If your luteal phase is too short, I believe that your doctor can prescribe something (progesterone maybe? I’m not sure) to lengthen it and help you get pregnant. Be aware that, if your doctor is one of those who assumes ovulation on cycle day 14 for all women, your post-coital may show a problem when there really is none.  You may ovulate on day 17 or 20 or whatever … all women are different.  I hate to see any woman undergo invasive procedures like IUI when the answer may simply be an increased awareness of your own cycles and fertility. Feel free to e-mail me privately if I can be of any help, and I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do. Kris Fred <odin0…@excite.com> wrote in message
