I understand that part of the cause of the weight gain is due to an over-abundance of insulin in the bloodstream. Is Metformin the medication she heard of recently, or is there a newer drug (possibly not yet approved) that manipulates the body’s reaction to insulin? Would a drug such as Metformin help with other symptoms like body hair? Still learning, Sarah

Yes, Metformin is the drug… (you don’t use insulin to treat PCOS, Metformin is a insulin lowering drug). It is approved for diabetes and insulin resistance, not for PCOS yet. There is a company called Insmed working on a new drug specifically for PCOS called INS-1, noone I know of is using it yet (I don’t think it’s available to the general public at all, just for research and testing)… Many doctors (not all though) are already using Metformin for PCOS… I am on it myself.
