"Newbie"needs pals and info

Question:

Hello All!     My name is Donell, I am 23 and recently dx as PCO, I just stumbled on this group by looking up info and it is great that I am not alone in the world, it seems like it here in New Orleans.  I like to do the email thing and I’m a great listener so I will be waiting to hear from any of you. One last thing, I am contemplating Metformin and was wondering whether or not the drug is long or short term? Can insulin remain controlled if you stop therapy(for ex. in pregnancy)? Any info would be greatly valued. Best Hopes and Wishes, Donell

Response:

Donell, saw your post about newly dx PCO and thought you deserved a reply.  There are many "cysters" all over the world and I hope by now that you have the PCOSA page and all the associated links for support and information regarding the syndrome. My twin sister and I have been diagnosed for about 7-8 years and unfortunately in the area we live in (NC) the doctors are not interested or helpful in treating the symptoms or the underlying problem of testosterone and flawed insulin metabolism and we are actively looking for an effective and helpful physician.  I hope that you are well and healthy despite your new dx. Any time you would like to chat or share information please feel free to mail me!! Leah, NC Cyster

MY twin sister shares some of the same symptoms as I do.  She hasn’t been diagnosed with PCO cause she hasn’t seen a doctor about it yet.  Are you identical or fraternal?  We’re identical. Maureen

Response:

Maureen, we are identical and actually only one of us(me!) has had the ultrasound to visualize the cysts on the ovaries… I was born larger and to this day am 2 inches taller and unfortuantely at this time much heavier(by 80 pounds) and we have found that without a doubt the symptoms are much worse with increasing poundage…but we are trying to find a good endo Dr. and twin has been Atkins dieting  for about 8 months and has found that in addition to weight loss many of the other symptoms (fatigue, carb cravings, mood swings) which  we both have experienced are not as severe and she has alot more energy.  I would be very surprised if your twin was not PCOS+  since you have identical DNA…Thanks for reply! We welcome further communication regarding "twin cysters". Leah
