This is wierd

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Since being diagnosed with diabetes….this happens often I feel like for some reason I have low blood sugar, even tho, I have been diagnosed with type II hyperglycemia….when I feel like I have low BS, I check my BS with my meter, and it shows usually about 80-105….isnt that odd? I had the same problem when I was first diagnosed Type 2. I had been running bG regularly in the 200’s. When oral meds, diet and exercise brought things down in a short period of time, I would have extreme hypoglycemic-like reactions at even 100-150 bG. As others have said, it is because my body, like yours, was acclimated to the higher range and it seemed like low blood sugar to my body so it reacted with symptoms like sweating, feeling like I was gonna pass out, shaky hands. When I tested my levels, I couldn’t believe I was having these symptoms when I wasn’t even near hypoglygemic levels. I know it helped immensely to know that there was a reason for it happening and then it didn’t seem so scary. As I remember, I think I just hung in there and it seemed like my body readjusted in about 2-3 weeks. I didn’t have episodes every day and I sure hope you don’t. I do remember sipping some oj a couple of times when my hands were shaking so bad I couldn’t stand it. Your body will adjust.
I hate hypoglygemic reactions…they come on really quick for me and I have severe symptoms and the last thing in the world I want to do is eat or drink anything. I want to curl up in a little ball and die. Plus it pisses me off to no end that I am wasting valuable calories eating or drinking I don’t want and don’t enjoy. I went on insulin in November cuz orals were not controlling things. Now my bG goes down as low as 50-60 occasionally, which is truly hypoglygemic. I’m learning to control it so it doesn’t bounce around. It’s actually kinda nice to have my bG go that low, I’m sure it hasn’t in years and years (I was diagnosed at 26, probably had it for years before that and am now 35). So, on the insulin, I was getting regular tests of 80-100. At first, having it at 80 gave me the low blood sugar reaction. Slowly I’ve adapted and now it has to be 65 or lower before it really bothers me and at that point, I should do something, including making sure that it doesn’t happen again! Good luck and take care. I’m sure your body will adapt to the nice new levels and will thank you in the end. Let us know how it’s going. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Some times I feel low & when I test I’m in the 150’s. The dr. explained it to me. Your body is storing it up because you haven’t eaten for a while & that’s why you feel hungry even tho your sugs are in the 150’s. Try asking your dr. for advice on this. Good luck! So since I am normally used to being high…the normal BG being at about 100 makes me feel low, can I get ill or pass out because I feel low even though it is not actually low? Should I ignore it, becuause 100 is safe, or should I try to raise it a bit? If I always raise it a bit, wont it always stay a bit high and I’ll never get used to the normal levels? Thanks!
Yeah, if you’re used to being high, then a normal bg wold make you feel low. It used to happen to me at 80 or so. Raise it a bit — what’s the point of feeling crappy, even if you aren’t going to pass out? Just be consoled by the fact that as your body gets used to lower bgs, you will eventually stop feeling so weird at 100. Wendy

You need to ignore it, eventually you will not feel low at this level. You should start to feel low when your bg drops below 70 (or is it 60?). Marilyn

I feel like I should eat a snack or drink OJ, but my BS is normal…sometimes I do drink a little OJ, and then I feel better….is this just my mind? a mental thing? ( i hope so) Also, does anyone know if a non diabetic can get low blood sugar from not eating and then OVER exercising? Thanks! ~Susan —Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.—

Hi Susan, we have talked on the PCO board and in e-mail. Sometimes if your range is lower than it used to be, you can have hypo-like symptoms even at normal sugars. I read that in a diabetic book. Your body may be used to higher levels and thus, the symptoms. Also, my mom gets the shakes and has to have OJ and the dr. tested her and said it was a potassium deficiency. Have you been checked for that? Also, you may be just hungry or thirsty and that’s why drinking the OJ helps you feel better. Also, does anyone know if a non diabetic can get low blood sugar from not eating and then OVER exercising?
Those who are considered hypogylcemic such as my sister. She must eat a little something every couple of hours or her blood sugars plunge. If she is active, she eats a little more. I hope this helps. ^–^ { ‘.’}cathy-to send e-mail, delete edyclub ` <HTML<A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Cottage/8060/index.html"MY_WEB!</A<BR<A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Cottage/8060/PCOS.html"PCO-YOU_A RE_NOT_ALONE! </A</HTML

No, it isn’t odd. There is no particular sensation consistently associated with high blood sugar. The sensation of low blood sugar is vague, inconsistent and almost impossible to distinguish from anxiety and/or fatigue. Many people have no awareness of low blood sugar. People often tell me they are having an attack of low blood sugar when they have absolutely no way of knowing–have never tested their bg. I think it’s kind of an urban legend: If you feel shakey, nervous, light-headed, inexplicably tired, etc., it means you have low blood sugar. It just ain’t so. Tim Miller

I asked my Doc and dietician about this, as I somtimes felt "yucky" when approaching "normal " bg levels (abut 125-130). They said that feels low to me since I’m not used to it, and that in time, it will come to feel normal, and any discomfort will go away. Here’s hoping!

Not unusual. You’re body’s used to running a little high, and then you get it to "normal" range and it feels low. After a while you won’t notice it until the 70’s or so. Same thing happened to me. Yes, and a diabetic on no meds can do the same thing. Beth Please defur me to reply by email

From Guy Williams Let hope the new Minimed glucometer will works out and provides the time histories necessary to provide enough data for good diagnosis. Then the answers will have some data to work with. Presently the diagnosis is an educated guess. In my case, they missed by a mile.
