Note: I am assuming your test came back for hypothyroidism opposed to hyperthyroidism, because being hypo is common with PCOS and that is the only way the aspirin makes any sense. First off, I am not a doctor and I dont know what test you had done, but I do have PCOS and I am hypothyroid.  I was diagnosised with my thyroid problem 15 years ago (at age 20).  I have never ever heard of anyone being treated for a thyroid condition with aspirin.  Thyroid replacement is just that a replacement hormone for what your body isnt producing itself, it is not a drug.  Thyroid replacement medicine is a medicine you will have to be on for the rest of your life.  Aspirin is not any type of hormone.  If you are hypothyroid taking a thyroid replacement hormone (such as synthyroid) will only help your chances of getting pregnant and not miscarriaging. Is thyroid problems common with PCOS?  There was an informal show of hands on this newsgroup a few months back, and by that test the answer would be yes. My recommendation to you would be this.  Ask for a copy of the test they gave you (it is always good to keep a copy yourself).  Ask for a referral to an endo or a reproductive endo.  I think you need another doctor’s opinion. A thyroid problem can kill you.  Okay that was dramatic and I admit it would take years for it to happen, and you would probably be locked up as insane first <smile>, but the truth is, if left untreated for years it can kill you.  And an aspirin isnt treatment. The symptoms of a thyroid problem are many.  The most common are fatigue, tiredness, and brain fog (forgetting things).  I have included a url for thyroid problems.  There is also a newsgroup of very smart and helpful people alt.support.thyroid.  The most important thing is getting and staying healthy. http://thyroid.miningco.com/mbody.htm Hope that helps some, Kara

You probably have elevated antithyroid antibodies.  I have heard of aspirin being used for this.  It has something to do with keeping the blood from clotting.  Something like the antibodies causing the blood to clot where the egg is trying to implant, and it causing a very early abortion.  I looked on PubMed cause I have one type of elevated antithyroid antibody.  One study said it affected miscarriage rate and another said it didn’t.   Good Luck, WALTER SCHISSER wrote: > I just got a postcard in the mail yesterday that said that a thyroid > test they took was abnormal, is this common for women with pco?? they > also said that they would only treat it with baby asprin when I tried to > get pregnant again. has anyone heard of this?? could the thyroid be some > of the cause of facial hair?? this is getting more and more complicated > as it goes on!! Hi. I’m new here on the Board.  I come as a Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (thyroid problems from an autoimmune attack on the thyroid) person who is being tested for PCOS.  People with thyroid problems are more likely to have PCOS (you know, the whole endocrine interaction/muliple problem thing.) I can tell you the hair problem is  a PCOS thing, not from the thryoid….the most hair complaints from people with thyroid problems is that the hair on their heads thins.
