Taking Met. and feeling very fatigued……

Question:

>Is there anyone else experiencing this?  I am going to give my endo. a call >Monday and possibly go in to do a creatinine and bun just to rule out lactic >acidosis.  Please let me know if you have any input to this.

Have the tests if it will reassure you.  But don’t worry too much about the fatigue.  Many of us had it when we first started Metformin. I was also afraid I had lactic acidosis.  If I wasn’t at work, I was sleeping.   Mine lessened after about a month, but didn’t completely subside until maybe 2 months.  Sorry I don’t have an explanation–I forgot to ask my doctor about it because it disappeared before my first  follow-up visit.

Response:

Maybe when we are tired has to do with when we take the medication..and how much we take.. I currently take 1500mg daily 500 at  about 9 am…4pm and 11pm….. I work 4-midnight….but on my days off..I am tired at about 8-9 pm..I guess at work I keep so busy that I over ride the tiredness???  I must admit that 2-3 times a week I get this I HAVE TO TAKE A NAP syndrome at about noon-1 pm.. a couple of hours before I have to get started for work.  I think that 2 850’s taken mid afternoon and before sleep would help me be less tired in the early evening…..when he ups the doseage…I also intend to ask about this when I go see the nutritionist next week.   ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Just Me,  Lisa. Response:

I too felt and continue to feel very tired at times.  I am on 850mg 2x a day. It has gotten better though.  I also had bloodwork to check for lactic acidosis after being on it for about 6 weeks.  The diarrhea seemed to get bad again and I was wiped out.  The bloodwork showed I was fine but  it was good for my peace of mind.   What you are experiencing is very normal but do what makes you the most comfortable. Question:

I was diagnosed with PCOS two years ago and i don’t have any information on this.  I read all the posts and i am amazed at all the information i do not know.  i have tried to find a doctor who knows anything about this and i just go in circles…. I have gone to primary doctors and switched gynecologists numerous times.  i was finally put on the pill and it helped.  i lost weight, had normal periods, etc. now my doctor is taking me off the pill. what do i do? i am gaining weight again and no periods. if anyone can let me know if there is a place i can call to locate a doctor familiar with this i would appreciate it.

Response:

Try finding an endocrinologist (spelling may be off) with PCOS experience and/or an OB/GYN that specializes in endocrinology.  This syndrome is an endocrine problem and that’s why traditional family practioners and OB/GYN’s have limited knowledge. Ask your current doctor for a referral or pull out the yellow pages and start calling.
