Question:
Hi Jan, I was on the meds (1500 mg/day) a full month before the diarrhea and nausea subsided. I was unable to eat much because I felt so ill, but I retained water like crazy. I gained 8 lbs in 3 wks. Then very suddenly, I started to loose and the weight loss has been quite consistent. Before met I was hungry constantly and was therefore a big eater. Since going on met 2 1/2 months ago, I am down 15 lbs. I do work at it a bit. I try not to eat at all after 7 pm. But I have found I don’t have the desire to eat as I used to. Maybe it will come with time, maybe the dose is not sufficient. I wish you all the best. Jenne in Ontario Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.

I was just diagnosed with pcos last week. I am waiting for the results of my fasting insulin test, which should be ready this week. I might have to go on Metformin, actually I hope the doctor will prescibe it since it sounds like it really works! But the funny thing is you wrote… >I finally saw a specialist in >the Heath Hospital in Cardiff(Wales)
I live in Ohio now, but my husband and I are actually moving to Cardiff in mid july and I am concerned about the availability of this medication there. Do you have any suggestions of good doctors to see there? Thanks! Regards, Cathy

I’ve had PCOS for years now, its obviously hereditary as I can see signs in my mum and her sisters and even my grandma. I was placed on Met. 1 month ago. I am on 500mg twice a day now, I finally saw a specialist in the Heath Hospital in Cardiff(Wales) that I could actually talk to, and I’m in a much happier frame of mind about the whole thing. Met. is only recently being used here and I’m in a special group trial. What I really want to know are the side effects… I’ve had the nausea and the feeling of seasickness, and now I’ve starting to recover from the massive diarrhoea. What other side effects are there? I feel very very tired, can’t get out of bed, legs – especially my knees, ache, fall asleep during the day, restless at night… are these side effects or is this something else! Also I’ve noticed that other people seem to have lost weight on Met. but this isn’t happening for me even though I’m careful about what I eat. I can’t do the Lowcarb thing as I rarely eat meat..and I’d die if I couldn’t eat fruit. I consider myself lucky in that I don’t have to pay for any treatment… only a fee for the tablets at the pharmacy,
