Question:
My r.e. says hcg can serve a dual purpose. It is used to induce ovulation, and it is also used instead of progesterone supplements (in whatever form) to maintain a thick uterine lining. My RE has me do "supplemental HCG" after the IUI. I mix 1 cc of dilutent with a 10,000 powder and on 3 different days over the course of a week, I give myself .25 cc’s. The vial is refrigerated in between uses.
My RE does the same thing, I think to boost progesterone. I do a booster of 5,000 with 1cc of diluent the day after my 2nd IUI (he does 2 in a row) and again 3 days after that. Vikki M. http://users.gibralter.net/~vikbill

HI, 20 to 25 is real good , they can ovulate between 15 to 20. You could ovulate on your own, but what has happen here is the medicen has taken over you body an you might go ahead and take that last shot to ovulate just to be on the safe side,if you don’t take the shot and don’t ovulate you could hyperstemulate this means fliud builds aroud the ovary. this can be very dangerous,you’ll know by a sharp shooting pain, call you doctor at once and get off your feet.

Well, I posted a couple days ago about the follicle sizes. One has matured to 19 x 21!!! I am so excited. This could be the first hopeful cycle. The other two are 15 or 16, I think. I usually ovulate on day 16 or 17. If I don’t they’ll give me an hcg shot. You don’t need one if you ovulate on your own, right?? And maybe the other two will grow in a day or two too?? SOOO hopeful, ++++++thoughts to all, Sonia 5 yrs IF Clomid and IUI’s 5 cycles.

Hi Sonia! My r.e. says hcg can serve a dual purpose. It is used to induce ovulation, and it is also used instead of progesterone supplements (in whatever form) to maintain a thick uterine lining. He said, however, that using hcg instead of progesterone suppositories is NOT ideal for pcos pts. because it can cause hyperstimulation. To induce ovulation it is ok though.
