You need to find out the brand name of those SF gummy bears or I will hunt you down. :-)) Do they have no carbs at all? I’m suspicious, but desperate. — -jennifer low-carbing 190/161/125 – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -quick. Probably didn’t make but 10 worms. On the other hand, I went to the store and for $2.50 can get a whole pound of sugar free gummy bears that taste a whole lot better (at least has different flavors…getting real tired of "jello" flavors). Don’t get me wrong, Melissa 210/206/120 since 1/1/99 Gummy Worm recipe one large box of sugarfree Jello, any flavor (or 2 small boxes) 4 envelopes Knox unflavored gelatin 1/2 cup water Combine above ingredients in a pan until blended. Heat over medium heat until dissolved. Pour into molds or on a plate. Cool for twenty minutes. If using plate method when gummies are cooled roll and cut in — "There’s a seeker born every minute."

Response:

I got them at a grocery store in the bulk section. Next time I go, I’ll take a look and ask the produce guy if he has any info about them. Well, the nutrition information card said no carbs, but you’re not the only one who is suspicious. Since they didn’t come out of a bag, I really have no way of knowing if they truly are sugar free. It also makes me suspicious because someone in another post (sorry, I forgot who) said that she didn’t like the taste of sugar free gummy bears, and I could not tell the difference *at all*. These tasted really good. Hmm. I’ll have to do some more investigating. Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? I’ll let you know if I find the name.
I guess this is another YMMV-type thing. I made them for my husband for the first time last night. He (or really =we=, since I had a little bit, too) found them very good. Neither of us like the flavor of the sugar free gummy bears. But I made a recipe of this in strawberry, and it was delicious. Instead of cooling it on a plate I used a 6" X 10" glass baking dish, and then cut it into little pieces about 1" square. That made it seem like an awful lot of candy. Someday soon I want to do some in lemon. My favorite candy was always lemon drops, and it’s the only sweet I really miss. Maybe this will take care of that craving.
Yep! That’s why I didn’t know the name brand. Also, do you have a Mr. Bulky’s in your mall (or other bulk store)? They always have a big variety of sf candy. They probably have gummy bears and you could probably get the nutrition info from an employee to make sure they are also carb free. Melissa 210/204/120 since 1/1/99

Response:

Yep, that’s where I found them, too. BTW, I’m the one who said that my DH and I didn’t care for the sugar-free gummy bears. Maybe I should clarify that and say that we never really cared for any type of gummy candies, even back when we could eat the regular stuff. So you couldn’t prove it by us that the ones we bought as "sugar free" really were. We just assumed we could believe the sign. (May have been a big mistake — who knows?) But we do love the gummy candies made from the "gummy worm" recipe.
Hi I just wanted to see if anyone else has had any problems like mine. Whenever I go into Ketosis basically – I get diarrhoea – I never get constipated on Atkins – Have got an appt with my Doctor on Thurs anyway for a check up for PCOS so am intending to ask her then. It’s just really annoying as I have to go about 30 mins after eating and it doesn’t affect my loss in anyway. Just wondering if I might be overdoing the water – I drink between 2 to 3 litres a day + herbal teas and decaff coffee(3 cups max). I don’t take any fibre supplements, just a multi vitamin and if I eat any wheat (bread etc) then I get really, really bad IBS. Anyone else have any probs like this or am I going to pop my clogs with bowel cancer or something equally cheery??? — Elise http://uk.photos.yahoo.com/elisebutt

You might try a fiber supplement, interestingly they work both to firm up loose stools and loosen dry ones. The intestines work best with a steady supply of fiber. | Hi | I just wanted to see if anyone else has had any problems like mine. | Whenever I go into Ketosis basically – I get diarrhoea – I never get | constipated on Atkins – Have got an appt with my Doctor on Thurs | anyway for a check up for PCOS so am intending to ask her then. | | It’s just really annoying as I have to go about 30 mins after eating | and it doesn’t affect my loss in anyway.
Could you be getting too much sugar alcohol? I doubt the ketosis is causing it. To achieve ketosis you are probably eating something new, which your body doesn’t like.

Welcome to ketosis. Have you stayed in ketosis for at least two weeks to see that this early effect is temporary? Have you moved on to OWL and seen that this early effect is temporary Have got an appt with my Doctor on Thurs anyway for a check up for PCOS so am intending to ask her then.

That’s nice but lots of doctors are clueless about Atkins. Unless your doc knows that the early effects last maybe two weeks, his/her advice won’t be of much use. Then again having that knowledge will suggest cluefullness. Anyone else have any probs like this or am I going to pop my clogs with bowel cancer or something equally cheery???

So many it seems like half of all Atkids get this standard early temporary effect. No way two weeks of temporary effects will have a long term effect.

Well, finally. I thought it was just me who had this problem. I keep reading about constipation problems while on Atkins and this is the first I’ve seen of someone who has the opposite problem just like me. :) It’s just really annoying as I have to go about 30 mins after eating and it doesn’t affect my loss in anyway. Just wondering if I might be overdoing the water – I drink between 2 to 3 litres a day + herbal teas and decaff coffee(3 cups max).
I don’t have IBS but I do drink lots and lots of water. I think the other responses you have received are probably correct. This will be my first week of OWL and am waiting eagerly to see if the poop issues resolve themselves as Doug has mentioned. If not, I’ll just incorporate a fiber supplement once I’m done navigating the wide field of available ones. Just glad I wasn’t the only one. — Felicia D. 210/195/140 since: 4/1/2005 monthly goal: 8 lbs.

My sister had the same problem but the answer turned out to be the low carb candy she thought was harmless.

That’s the thing – I should have mentioned that I did Atkins for a year until last summer when I went to Barcelona for a holiday and then Paris and it was really hard getting extra veggies as we ate out all the time – everything seemed to be potato, pasta or rice based and I was getting peed off with eating the most boring things on the menu so I quit basically. Finally got around to going back on Atkins – definitely going to stick this time – can’t afford any more holidays after this next one in California, where I can’t foresee a problem with eating out. Anyway I had the problem throughout the year that I was on Atkins – probably why I lost so much so easily – LOL!! I don’t tend to overdo the sugar-free candy too much as they really aggravate it and then I can’t be more than a 15 min brisk walk from the loo, or I’m in trouble Actually I thought today wasn’t too bad as I only had time for a couple of boiled eggs before we went out for the day, then only had time for a quick cup of coffee until we got home at 6ish. Then I had a normal dinner – Steak & salad – whoosh – off to the loo again – sigh!! I used to take fibre tablets last year as well and they had absolutely no effect either way. Elise

A year is a very different issue than the usual Induction loosness. Another thing to check: Did you stay on Indcution? Moving up the carb ladder to find your CCLL is another thing that helps resolve the issue. If you did spend the week out of ketosis to find your CCLL, then it will be harder. I think this is caused "dumping syndrome". The initial approach is to keep a log of what you eat and when you have loose bowel movements. Try to figure out some combination that causes. For a while I had the problem around once every other week and logging showed that it was a combination of pork plus hot pepper plus high salt that did it for me. I stopped salting any pork meal and it almost never happens any more. For you it might be a single common food or a common combination.

Due to incompetent cervix I lost a baby at 21 weeks 1 1/2 years ago. I have never had an abortion, been exposed to DES or anything, I am pretty sure its hormonal. I am finally pregnant again (have PCOS) and had a cerclage put in at about 14 weeks. I am now at 22 weeks, the stitch is in good shape but I have funnelled (spelling?:) all the way up to the first stitch and they say I have 1.7 cm left of cervix- where it is stitched only, and the baby’s side of the cervix is open 2cm. (cm right?)I have no bleeding or pain other then a few little pinches here and there, I am on complete bedrest (have been for a week now) and this is the 2nd time in this pregnancy that I have started opening. The first time was also up to the first stitch but only 1 cm… at 18 weeks, and by 19 weeks and a day or so, It was right back to normal. (after bedrest, then the doc said to go back to normal, so I did 1/2 of the norm. to be careful and opened up again.)at 21 wks, 1cm, even with bedrest by 22wks @2cm. I really think my doctor is doing everything he can – visits 1x a week w/ ultrasounds and cervical exams… I dont know why he doesnt just put me in the hospital or something…he kind of just tells me to expect early delivery, like at 25 weeks maybe 26… Friday I see a specialty doc. Anything I should know? Ask? Do? Not do? Has anyone had success with dilating this early? to where the pregnancy is pretty much depending on the stitches? I’m kinda freaking out because no one seems to have any answers. I know it depends on how long my body can hold up, but on average.. how many this early are successful etc. my doc wont tell me, says there is no way to put a number on it, he doesnt want my hopes up OR down I think… so anyways, all info is appreciated, whether its good or bad news. thanks – kimberly

Dunno how much help this will be. A girl from work had it last year (before I met her). They put her on bedrest in the hospital for several months. I don’t know if she had the stitches or not, I’d imagine so. They were sure she’d deliver very early, but she made it to 38 weeks. I don’t really know any other details of her situation. She’s pg again (her kids are going to be about 1 yr apart), 7 months, and she doesn’t have it this time. She was quite young too, she’s almost 18 now. I hope the specialist will be more helpful. I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t put you in the hospital. It must be pretty hard to get solid bedrest at home. Do you get a home health nurse or anything? Good luck, Jeni.

Hi, I was diagnosed PCOS in 2000. I have been on the pill (Yasmin) for almost two years. On the first and second days of the second week of my pill pack, I was so tired I forgot to take them. I resumed on the third day, taking two on the third and two on the fourth day of that week to catch up. I did have intercourse on the first of the two days on which I forgot my pill. What is the probability, given pcos, that I could have gotten pregnant? I know that the pill packs give caution in relation to the second week, but am not clear how that is actually taking into consideration when one has pcos. thanks. Mysty

Response:

The likelihood of someone getting pregnant during the first week of a pill pack is extreamly low. If I remember correctly from when I was on the pill, I was usally bleeding the first couple days of a new pack, having statred about 3 or 4 days after the last acitve pill. Even a ‘normal 28-day-cycle’ woman would have a very low risk of pregnancy during the first week of her cycle. An egg only lives 24 hours and sperm can live up to 5 days, so you would have to have unprotected sex within 5 day prior to ovulation to concieve under normal circumstances. I’d think you shouldn’t be worried. A good general rule of thumb on when you might ovulate is approximate 2 weeks to 10 days prior to starting to bleed. I know that is a veryhard way to calculate, and that it wouldn’t hold true for every woman, but the average luteal phase (the time between ovulation and mensturation) is 10 – 14 days. For every woman, the part of the cycle that can vary most is the time from the end of mensturation to ovulation. Anyway, that is probably WAY more information than you were looking for, but thought I would offer it. This is hard for me to write.Im a 17yr old girl, who has always had very dark hair on my legs and arms, which,I have always been selfconcious about, but knew I could get over it. But now, over the last year, I have noticed I have hair on my chest (not just nipples, all over), abdomen, thighs, basically all over my body. I also have irregular periods, and sort of thinning hair. I had a blood test, and it came back normal. My doctor doesnt think there is anything wrong since I am young, and not slim(not overly).BUT i havent told her about the excess hair because I am too embarrassed. I havent told my mum either because of this. I know about laser hair removal,as I am currently having it done on my upper lip. This costs a lot, and takes time, which I havent got much of as I want to go to Uni in a year.argh, this is the time when I am meant to be having heaps of fun (and want to be) but this is lowering my selfconfidence. Also if I do have PCOS it has to be checked out straight away for health reasons doesnt it…Has anyone got any advice for me, or how you have/do cope with excess hair, and if you have got rid of it how? Also if you could just provide support, or advice on my situation. Thanks everyone

Push for more testing. I had to. You should have an estrogen, progesterone, total and free testosterone, fasting insulin, and fasting glucose. Luckily my hair is fairly kight. I just pluck on my face and shave or use Nair other places.

I really have to give credit where credit is due to exercise as well as LC. I think I’m losing faster because this is the way I’m supposed to eat, period. I would have thought cannabis would give the munchies lol Maybe try some low-alcohol beers, as it’s the alcohol that contains the vast majority of the calories. It does depend on you though. I don’t think there would be a problem in having a drink on Friday or Saturday – although maybe not both. Personally, I have never found that alcohol does anything to my weight, but I know this is not the experience of the vast majority of people. Cannabis is a lot better for weight-loss MadJock Ok, I know this is bad when slimming, but i really do like to have a drink on friday and saturday nights. So i was wondering if some drinks contain less calories than others, like vodka compared to lager/beer ? Obviously vodka would be taken with diet softdrinks. Thanks Stuart A simple formula to use is to take the proof and subtract 15 and that will give you a reasonable estimate of the calories per ounce (i.e. 80 proof vodka is 65 cal/oz.). Beer is about 12 cal/oz. or about 150 cal for a 12 oz. bottle. Wine varies from 15-20 cal/oz for red & white wines to 40-50 cal/oz for dessert wines. Keep in mind that with alcohol it’s not always the calories but the reduction in will power that may accompany a drink or two. With that said, I enjoy a good dark beer once a week and it hasn’t killed me or my diet so far, but then again I only drink at home because I’m a total lightweight/cheap date and get a major buzz from my one drink.
  – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’m not complely sure why, but WW shows a shot of hard liquor to have less points (i.e. calories) than either a 12 oz glass of non-lite beer or a 6 oz glass of wine. 1 oz of hard has the same point value as lite-beer (which, by the way I cannot stand, sex in a canoe is what I call it. that would be f**king near water for those slow on the pickup) LOL – I like that one. 1 oz of hard liquor is approximately the same as a lite beer (around 100 cal) but a non-lite beer is around 150 or more. Jenn Why waste precious calories on cheap booze? Go for the good stuff! Life is too short for bad beer. If you’re going to have a beer, have A GOOD beer. That lite stuff sucks indeed. I still drink a good microbrew ale, pilsner, stout or lambic once in a while; I just make sure it is once in a while. Martha

I’m partial to dark beers, especially Guiness, but no one has it on tap and everyone serves it cold. Lots of great microbrews around and I have a friend who makes the most fantastic lager, but sadly only once a year. Jenn

Thanks Stuart A simple formula to use is to take the proof and subtract 15 and that will give you a reasonable estimate of the calories per ounce (i.e. 80 proof vodka is 65 cal/oz.). Beer is about 12 cal/oz. or about 150 cal for a 12 oz. bottle.
Very true, and make sure and eat something low fat before you go to the bar, one because it’s not healthy to drink on an empty stomach and two to help with the will power.
The alcohol in those beverages has the same calorie count, it’s either 7 or 9 calories per gram. The other ingredients it is going to vary. A (one) drink won’t hurt once or twice a week. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Ok, I know this is bad when slimming, but i really do like to have a drink on friday and saturday nights.
