have pco but RE said NO metformin

Question:

I took my first cycle of Clomid last month, whyle waiting on results (af) my RE called with the results from my bloodwork, she said that most of them were normal, but that my FSH (I think) was double what it should be and that that says that I probably DO have pco, BUT……. that my insulin levels were normal so that she didn’t think they were going to give me the Metformin. does anyone elce have this problem? should I push to get the med. anyways even though the insulin levels were normal?? if I can’t get the meds. what will I do with all this excess hair???? I hate this, FINNALY I thought I had found an answer to my problems, yeah right. if amyone can help your input would be great!!!                              Thanks Tracy

There was a post about a week ago about some new research and how women that had tested negative for IR were tested again with a clamp – glucose and insulin fed in by IV for a number of hours.  They all tested positive for IR in the clamp.  See if you can get one of these tests done – they must be much more sensitive than a regular serum insulin or GTT. <<she said that most of them were normal, but that my FSH (I think) was double what it should be and that that says that I probably DO have pco…>> I think she was talking about LH, not FSH.  If LH is 2-3x higher than FSH, that is a classic indicator of PCOS. << should I push to get the med. anyways even though the insulin levels were normal??>> I would.  I believe that Dr. Glueck, one of the pioneers regarding this whole insulin-PCO thing,  seems to think that the insulin-lowering meds could still help alleviate PCOS, even if you’re not proven to be insulin resistant.  You can check out his webpage, which will also lead you to more info… http://blues.fd1.uc.edu/~gartsips/polycyst.htm
