I got a treadmill

Question:

This might not be that great, it’s not an electronic one. Kind of hard to walk on, but I figure it’s better than nothing.  I can’t afford one of the expensive ones.   Anyway, is anyone else using one?  How far do you walk?  Is a mile a day enough?  I got this because I’m a single parent, and I can’t always get OUT of the house to walk.  Thought I could do this after the kids are in bed. Response:

Treadmills with no motor are useless.

Hey, it’s SUMMER! Take the kids with you — the exercise will tire them out and they’ll go to bed at a decent time!

Response:

Robin – Keep up the good work.  i’m currently saving for a treadmill now but my mother-in-law went from almost 200 lbs to about 120 by using a non motorized treadmill and watching her fat intake and calories.  She looks wonderful and certainly feels a heck of alot better. Linda ;)

those treadmills aren’t for everyone.  I bought one 4 years ago and used it like crazy the first week.  After that it became a clothes line for my wet laundry.  I personally do much better at the gym.  My one year membership cost the same as the treadmill ($150) and I get a huge variety of equipment to use.  Good luck with yours though!!  i hope it works out! — -Luvbug ICQ: 32503606    AOL: Kandvob Earn 50 cents an hour surfing the web…  Find out how! I didn’t see this post roiginally, but now that I’ve been on it, I think it’s NOT useless at all.  It got my heart rate up, I could feel the workout in my legs, and I was able to walk about half a mile.  It was harder that just walking, more like trudging up an incline, but that’s not so bad.  Guess I might like to have one that’s motorized someday, so I could walk at more of a normal gait, and swing my arms rather than hold onto the rails, but while I have this, I think it’ll work.  Oh, and I even showed a loss in my weight yesterday, down a pound, which I haven’t done in probably three or four weeks! Must’ve done something! Robin

I strongly disagree.  I have a nonmotorized treadmill, and I prefer it that way.  Since it requires effort to move the belt as well as to walk, it provides a better workout. I can actually feel it in my muscles after I’ve been using it for a long time, which wouldn’t happen with plain walking on a motorized treadmill. — Melissa 140/122/110 Share what you know. I’ve been wanting to start shopping for a treadmill.  I know I won’t be able to walk in the winter or when it rains.  I am willing to spend up to $2000 to get a good one.  I want to do it right the first time.  Any suggestions? Places to start shopping? Carl – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – This might not be that great, it’s not an electronic one. Actually, one of them is really small, and she walks too slowly for me to get up to a quick enough pace.  I get a LOT of exercise chasing her when she’s being ornrey, though!! Robin

Response:

I bought a motorized treadmill at sears on sale, around $440.   It’s been pretty good.  I don’t use it much now that I walk to work, but my girlfriend is there most every morning, watching Cable News on TV. (It does take up a fair sized chunk of our small living room though.) — when you see infrared we’re all luminescent

Response:

I have had both a manual and a motorized treadmill.  The manual was too hard for me to use, so I never used it.  I know it gave a better workout, but not if you aren’t on it.  I have a motorized one now that allows me to create my own programs which I vary from week to week.  I am slowly increasing the speed, duration and the incline.  I use it a lot more than even I expected.  So far it has been the only exercise regimen that I have been able to stay on.  I hate exercise.  It has also allowed me to build up stamina so I can go bike riding with my family which was torture before.  Good luck! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – This might not be that great, it’s not an electronic one. I too bought a treadmill that was not the "best" but could afford.  I found that I used it more when it was visable and handy. (my son recently moved back home for awhile and we had to move it downstairs to the basement) I fould that when I reached 1 mile, I would think "I can make it" it 1 1/2 miles, when I hit 1 1/2 miles I "could" make it to 2.  I found that I pushed myself to go that "extra" distance. My son has moved back out and and we are going to move my treadmill back, where it belongs…..in my office, upstairs.  Remember … "Out of sight…out of mind"   I also measure distance on the car when driving…when we visit my bro- in-law in northern MN. I measure the distance on the dirt road to his house from the paved road, It’s 2 miles… I then take the dog for a "walk" she loves the country and being free and I get my excercise to boot, 4 miles no doubt. Linda, Have you thought about eBay?  That’s where I got mine.  They almost always have some treadmills for auction, and they tend to go relatively cheap.  Even with shipping, I paid only $130 for mine. — Melissa 140/122/110 Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.
