Lisa – Yes, my endo just started me on Metformin last month, and I am taking .125 levothroid daily – had my thyroid gland removed last year. She did caution me to stop the Met for 48 hours if I was having any Xrays or other exams that required contrast dye IV, but that is not related to the thyroid stuff. Rosalie

Hi Lisa- I think you’ll be surprised at how many of us take Metformin/Rezulin and Synthroid, and probably Spironolactone…and yes, the two you mentioned can be taken together…at least, I take them together with no problem. My endo is male too, and he’s great. The female OB/GYN put me on BCP to regulate my cycle and told me the rest of my problems were mostly in my head. Can you believe it? It’s not that I think female gynos are better than males….but I have never been and I am extremely shy about my body. If I had to go to a male, I wouldn’t go at all. So a female is what I really need right now. ~Susan – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -auntm…@shentel.net wrote: > My endo is male too, and he’s great. I think what people are trying to say is that you can get a good or bad dr of either gender. I have had wonderful female gynos, and I prefer a woman myself. However, I ahve also had horrible female gynos, and both one great male gyno as well as two horrible male gynos. What is important is that you ask the dr lots of questions and get comfortable with them before the exam, then, if you are not happy with them, find another dr. Gyno exams are a bit uncomfortable and the instruments and gel are usually a little cold, but a decent dr will talk you through it and will not do anything too quickly. I think that’s all people are trying to say, and of course anyone who has found a good dr always wants to share the news becuase they are rare! It was so difficult for me to find a female doctor locally who treated PCOS. Most of the endocrinologists were not Ob/Gyn and did not treat PCOS….or they were men….this is my first time, and I wanted to female, I FINALLY found an RE whom I made an appointment with for March 1st! =) I also asked if she prescribes Metformin since you guys said that was important to ask, and she does. So I am so happy….I hope I will know if PCOS is what I have. I have a feeling it is. Thanks for the support! ~Susan P.S. Why is it important if they do prescribe Metformin? Is it controversial?

Susan, Here is a website that describes how Metformin is being used to *treat* PCO. Good luck on your drs visit. http://blues.fd1.uc.edu/~gartsips/polycyst.htm Nicole —> remove ‘devnull’ from my email address to reply <— ___________________________________________________________________________ ___
