Metformin…basic question

I always took it with the first bite of food, but I don’t think it really matters as long as its right around the time you eat. As a diabetic, I take it as quickly as possible, because I need to have it working before bs levels start to rise, but if I take it before a meal, I am risking GI effects, so I eat a little bit of my meal, take the medicine and then enjoy the rest of my meal. My DIL is on glucophage too and does it about the same way. I know some diabetics who are prone to really high sugars take it 1/2 hour before–but most of us don’t have sugars that high here (I don’t think) and taking it as I do would probably be fine. It is generally recommended that you take it with food.
