PCO'ers should read the whole message…

Question:

I can actually say that I have been tested for CAH as well as Cushing’s.  My doctors have informed me that I do not have either CAH or Cushing’s at this time.  In all the searching that I have done I never knew that PCO was a symptom of CAH.  I guess you really do learn somethign new every day. I know my doctor was concerned and did many blood tests to eliminate other possible disorders which manifest the same symptoms.  Given my family history, he wasn’t surprised with the final results, but he wanted to make sure regarding any other possiblities.  I admire that kind of thoroughness.  Of course, for years, my ob-gyn just treated the symptoms-the crazy cycles, etc. with Provera and I didn’t respond well to that stuff at all.  Other than the hemoglobin test and urine test and of course, the pap smear, she never ran any lab tests.  With a trip to my RE though, I had to give vial after vial of blood but it was good to do that and eliminate what was NOT wrong with me as well as investigate what was.  Some blood tests had to be ran the third day of my period, but the glucose testing didn’t have to be.  The last time I tested (about 3 months ago) showed much improvement over when I first showed up in his office.  I was on Rezulin awhile, but then switched to Metformin. I see him again tomorrow to see how I am doing, so keep me in your thoughts and prayers.  ^–^ Cathy {‘ . ‘}    `   Life’s a dance you learn as you go-sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow. I would be interested in any new developments for my web page–have to change it at least once a week with stuff people send me.  Please don’t forget me when you find out something new.  ^–^ Cathy {‘ . ‘}    `   Life’s a dance you learn as you go-sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow. Carol, I can’t find the original thread so I’m starting a new one.  You have an exceptional web page, but I don’t think the jury is out. Theres a chicken and egg issue that still remains about PCO and CAH. In the web page below, they list PCO as a symptom of CAH — check out *Table 1* on the following web page about a third down from the top. http://www.aafp.org/afp/990301ap/1190.html IMO, I think anyone who has PCO who hasnt’ been tested for CAH, should do so if their planning a pregnancy.  The explanation of CAH on the web page below is terribly lacking, but some people have CAH and may not realize it because symptoms can be so mild, HOWEVER, the last paragraph of this web page is right on target. http://www.aafp.org/afp/990301ap/990301b.html This issue has become my "research topic" of moment, so if you or anyone reading this has any more info, please share it here. We may figure out who’s got the most updated medical info. Some stuff on the Net is plain bogus, but some is even worse because it’s valid information, but *extremely* outdated (ahem.. sort of like real-life docs we’re paying to treat us.) <sigh>   – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Carol Lucier wrote: > Ortiz, >    Please visit my web site.  It has links to sites about PCO and CAH. > Just click on below.
