pcos and prog. support
Question:
I have heard that PCO’ers should have progesterone support because it is usually low. I am currently at the start of the TWO week wait after a clomid 100mg/metformin cycle. I am concerned about this and am wondering if there is any truth to that. Can anyone help? Shelley PCO/IR on met and clomid 100 mg. ttc 2+ years CD 18

<<I have heard that PCO’ers should have progesterone support because it is usually low…. I am concerned about this and am wondering if there is any truth to that. Dr. A. Beer claims that there IS a correlation between PCOS and placental deficiency. He attributes the high miscarriage rate with PCOS, to this occurrence. He routinely treats his PCOS patients with progesterone supplementation thru 16 weeks, LMP. You can search for his websites. The metformin you’re taking might counteract this problem…or not. Still, it seems that many PCO-er’s don’t seem to have placental problems…or perhaps they go unnoticed or never make it to diagnosis. That said, I have *certainly* suffered from placental insufficiency (I have wicked PCOS). I am STILL on progesterone support at 28 weeks pg. Signs of placental insufficiency that I have incurred include placental abruption/tearing, low progesterone, low amniotic fluid level… all likely due to hypertension caused by PCOS. All I can really say is to get your progesterone level checked, once pregnant. If it’s fine, then good. If not, get supplementation. My OB thought I was nuts insisting on progesterone testing at 20 weeks pregnant. He called my RE, who agreed that it wouldn’t hurt to test. Came back at around 19. Lucky I stuck to my guns, and made them check, huh?
