Prometrium

Question:

Hi- I took Prometrium for the first time last month, 200mg each day.  My Gyn wanted to put me on birth control pills but was worried that my blood pressure was too high.  She said that Prometrium supposedly doesn’t make you feel as bad as other medications that do the same thing.  I first started taking the Prometrium in the morning before going to work around 5:30 am.  I continued this for 3 days before deciding to take the pills at night.  When I took them in the morning, I would feel incredibly dizzy around 11am on the nose each day.  It was the weirdest thing.  I would feel like I just had two shots of liquor and would be unable to focus.  I’m glad I was never driving at this time!  Taking the pills at night seemed to take care of the problem.  I got my period the second day after starting the pills and was told to take them for 10 days.  Now I’m waiting to hear back from my Gyn as to whether I should continue to take them each month.  I talked to the nurse after I got my period last month (Dr. wouldn’t talk to me unless I came in!) and asked for a prescription figuring I was to continue but she wasn’t sure.  Instead she made me wait and see if I got a period on my own this month.  I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t! I’m a little unclear as to what the prometrium is supposed to do beside give me a period.  Should this help with excess hair, weight, etc?  My Gyn hasn’t been too helpful at all.  In fact she never even explained what PCOS was and what it will mean down the road. Anyway, I hope this helps someone.  Good look! Response:

nope, it is supposedly " a kinder, gentler provera"  Just to make you bleed. The progesterone cream, prometrium and provera, depo provera — all in the progesterone family.

Response:

Yes, I just took 400mg for 12 days last month.  I suffered from severe dizziness personally.  So bad that I took them right before I went to sleep and one night fell down the last 3 steps of my stairs.  Other than that, I did notice some irritability, tiredness and slight mood swings.  I think that I am pretty sensitive though, hopefully you will have a better reaction.  Please let me know.  Now the doctor has prescribed "Crinore" which is a progesterone cream inserted into the vagina (oh yippee)  He is hoping that with it being more localized, that I won’t suffer so many side effects. Good luck, Wendy
