I have also had problems with provera and this time DR gave me 5mg for 5 days. It makes me a total basket case. Another thing that I found out is it is better take it at night. I was having all signs of morning sickness from taking it in the am. I hate that stuff and got so lucky this month, I started on my own, yeah! Also at last DR visit (last week) he told me there is a cream that is used vaginally called crimalone (I think that is how it is spelled) that has virtually no side affects but is very expensive and not usually covered by insurance. It might be worth a try. Hope that helps. tish

<<For those of you who have taken Provera to start your cycle, what is the dosage you have taken? I have used Provera countless times, in a variety of ways: 10 mg for 10 days (usually) 10 mg for 14 days (never again!!!) 5 mg for 4 days; 10 mg for 3 days (total 7 days) 10 mg for 5 days (will do this from now on) It’s always worked for me! <<Has anyone cheated and just taken 7 pills instead of 10? Would this be such a bad thing for me to do? I know a few people who take it for 7 days. Like I said, I took it for only 5 days last time, and it worked fine! :)

The last time I needed something to bring on a period, I took one shot of 150 mg of Progestrerone in oil (actually I did it in 2 seperate shots so its shouldn’t be so painful to inject). I didn’t notice any side effects and I got my period exactly one week later. I prefer this rather than Provera any day. Ask your doctor if you can do this.. Esther

Just my .02, but everytime I’ve taken Provera it has been 10mg for 7 days. I was get AF less than a week after stopping. Kim S

<<Anyone with PCOS ever questioned IR and provera. The med. insert says it may cause sugar level problems and people with diabetes should be carefully monitored. Wondering if that explains the mood swings etc..? IR is not the same thing as diabetes. With PCOS, it is very common to have normal blood sugar levels, and also have IR. (altho some with PCOS have diabetes….and are prone to it later in life)

I am diabetic and have taken provera to start a few cycles. I really did not notice any change in my blood sugars while taking it. I am sure it is a possible problem with taking provera so they must put it on there to cover there butts. If you notice almost every medication warns consult your dr. if you are diabetic. But not all these meds cause any problems, matter of a fact most cause no problems for most people. So I do not see any reason that women with PCOS should not take it. Aspecially because having PCOS does not mean you are diabetic just as being diabetic does not meen you have PCOS. If you have no problems with blood sugar control then you should have no worries about any possible effects on your blood sugar that provera may cause. If you are concerned about possibly being diabetic ask your doctor to do tests such as HgA1c, this will show you sugar control average for the last 3 months, or Glucose Talerance Test, shows how high sugars get during 3 hour period after drinking this nasty stuff. The HgA1c would be the best to do first it is a blood test can be added to all the number of blood tests already done. Then depending on what that showed possibly doing a GTT later. You are all in my prayers, Castle starting 4th cycle clomid 2 m/c Dx(possibly several others early) lap 5+ years trying

I have also had bad reactions to provera. By day ten, I am usually in tears. I have no control… anything and anyone can set me off. The last time I was on provera I cried for about 6 hours straight for absolutely no reason. I usually ask my doctor to cut Rx down to 5mg for 10 days(forgot last time!). In high school I would take 2.5mg for 10 days. the lower dosages worked for me and I didn’t suffer from the severe depression.

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi all, For those of you who have taken Provera to start your cycle, what is the dosage you have taken? I have taken it in the past and am on it again (this is my 5th day) and feel like total CRAP. I am taking 10mg for 10 days. I hate this drug, I really do. Has anyone cheated and just taken 7 pills instead of 10? Would this be such a bad thing for me to do? I can’t stand the way I am feeling and I can’t believe I am only half way through the dosage. Thanks, Chele :-p Thanks!
I just finished taking provera – 10mg for 10 days. I don’t really notice any side effects. This prescription I got from my RE. My old OB used to give me 10mg for 7 days and that always worked for me. Once, my RE gave me 10mg for 6 days and I didn’t start because it turned out I was pregnant. I’m not sure why RE prescribes it for 10 days – maybe this is better for your body somehow. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Nicole
