RE appt on the 30th

Question:

I finally got an appt with an RE. And I am scared to death of what he might tell me! My obgyn did an U/S and told me I had pco in August. He tried Clomid and that didnt work. 2 months on bcp then I see the Dateline show and got the nerve to call him back and ask some questions. He was very nice and told me he had done all he could do and referred me to an RE. Telling me about the insulin problems cozed by this. So now I have had a few weeks to read alot of posts and make up my own horror stories in my head! I am so afraid that he will tell me I just need to do the Carb dieting. Or just tell me that he cant do anything for me either. I know that fact that they are recognizing poc in the first place is a good thing. But I am still afraid! Do most REs understand pco? Help put my mind at ease……. Chris Diagnosed with PCOS in Aug 98 TTC #2   1st round of Clomid-50mg (didnt ovulate) 2nd round Clomid-100mg (didnt even come close) Appt with RE this month! Woohoo!

Chris, What I did when I got a referral from my ob/gyn to see an endo, I called the endo’s office to see if he’s treating women with PCOS and does he treat with Metformin or Rezulin.  I was told that he did have a couple patients with PCOS but has not prescribed to them these latest drugs.  I brought in some documentation but didn’t need to.  I requested Rez or Metformin and he prescribed Rezulin. IMO, one referral may not be enough.  Perhaps calling a few RE’s and speaking with the RE or his/her nurse  I was lucky enough to get a friendly , understanding, compassionate endo. IMO, expecting that every MD has that type of bedside manner is asking too much.  I hope you have a good experience.
