What do the numbers mean?
Question:
Ria, I second Marissa. My numbers are normal, but i’m still pco. My RE says it happens a lot. Did you get a vaginal ultrasound? That is also a good way to diagnose PCO. I think you got it! My diagnosis of PCOS came not because my raw numbers or FSH and LH were out of whack, but because the RATIO of one to the other was bad. Okay, here’s the thing, one of them is supposed to be roughly double the other (2:1), although I forget which one is supposed to be higher. Your ratio is approximately 1:1 (MY ratio was 2:1 in the wrong direction). Its good that you are going to a gyno, because obviously, the other doctor didn’t know much about PCOS, and in fact it was my gyno who diagnosed me. Its disconcerting, however, that you have never been to one. Everyone should go regularly (at least once a year once you hit 15 or so) whether you have PSOC or not. My doctor makes me get check ups at least twice a year. Bring your research with you when you go to see the doctor. Good Luck. Ria <rwier…@bigfoot.com> wrote in message

Hi all, I’m usually just a lurker and have been too busy at work to read posts lately. I have been talking with my doc for a couple years now about the excess hair growth. Seems to be mainly facial though shaving the legs every day in the summer is a pain. I don’t know if I’m PCOS but we are exploring the option. Was on BCP but didn’t like that they messed up my periods (which were always irregular but seem to have become regular since I quit the bcp – go figure). Just got test results back from the doc from my hormone tests and she says they are normal. Wanted to post the numbers and see what you all have to say on them. The blood work was done the day before I got my period. She is referring me to a GYN and I want to know what I need to be prepared for as I’ve never been to gyn before. FSH 6.2 (one year ago it was 6.8) LH 6.4 Prolactin 13.2 Thanks!! Ria

Ria- I had normal hormone levels for a few years and had doctors not diagnose the PCOS because of that. I found out from my current doctor that your levels don’t have to be necessarily out of whack for the PCOS to be in place. I wish I would have known this, and got on the metformin sooner than I did. Just keep this in mind.
