What does Lupron do with IVF?
Question:
I am having a poor response to Follistim after 2 cycles with IUI. Someone suggested I use Lupron before Follistim. I have seen that some use Lupron before an IVF and wondered what the purpose of it is? Could it help with my Follistim/IUI cycle if I have to do another one in the future? I am having my IUIs tomorrow, but only got one mature follicle out of 4-5 follicles I started the cycle with after 3 amps of Follistim. Vikki M. http://users.gibralter.net/~vikbill

<< I have seen that some use Lupron before an IVF and wondered what the purpose of it is? Mainly, it is used to suppress your own hormone production, allowing the meds to completely take over. Most importantly for IVF, it is used to prevent premature ovulation …..you need all the eggs to be there at retrieval. << Could it help with my Follistim/IUI cycle if I have to do another one in the future? I have heard of Lupron being used for IUI cycles, often for those with elevated LH (e.g. pcos), which supposedly can cause premature egg degeneration. However, those who are "poor responders" tend to use only small/minimal Lupron doses (flare or microdose) for IVF, rather than the higher downregulation doses. Therefore, if you are a "poor responder", I don’t know if using Lupron w/IUI would help or not. Maybe not? -Kay
